According to 24 Frames, Antoine Fuqua is set to come aboard the boxing pic starring Eminem, Southpaw. While no official deal is in place as of yet, Fuqua’s rumored attachment to Southpaw may mean his upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic will be shelved.
Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) is in early negotiations to star in Louis Leterrier’s (Clash of the Titans) magical heist pic Now You See Me. According to Variety, the Summit Entertainment action/thriller has offered lead roles to both Eisenberg and Jake Gyllenhaal (Source Code), as well as French actress Melanie Laurent (Beginners).
The official movie poster one-sheet has been released by Summit Entertainment for upcoming swashbuckling adventure pic The Three Musketeers. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil), this reboot hits theaters on October 14th.
Dwayne Johnson (aka "The Rock") might join the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel as heavy machine gunner “Roadblock.” According to Deadline, Johnson is in talks to join Paramount’s “overhauled sequel” G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes, set to be directed by Jon Chu (Step Up 3D). Johnson is flying high off Fast Five’s box office success, and is already rumored to have a role in the sixth installment. He might turn into action franchise gold, if G.I. Joe 2 does well.
Wayne Kramer (Running Scared) is set to direct dystopian sci-fi film Ecstasia. Deadline reports that Relativity Media has optioned Ecstasia, penned by Kramer, which features a futuristic world where love no longer exists.
Described as a slow-burn ‘70s-style horror movie, YellowBrickRoad certainly delivered on atmosphere. What it didn’t deliver on was making any kind of sense, or providing an adequate/satisfactory ending. With an extremely limited release this week as part of Bloody Disgusting Selects, YellowBrickRoad struck me as particularly offensive in that it failed to live up to its awesome potential.
Grammy Award-winning musical talent Mary J. Blige has written and performed a new song for upcoming DreamWorks Pictures’ The Help. The empowering story of a group of 1960s-era Mississippi women finding their voice will come out in theaters August 12, and Blige’s new song “The Living Proof” will be available on The Help’s soundtrack release July 26th.
Jessica Chastain, star of Terrence Malick’s uber experimental film The Tree of Life, visited Austin earlier this week to attend a cast and crew screening of the film at the famed Paramount Theatre. She took some time to talk to me about her role in Tree of Life and answer some questions about the film and how she prepared for it.
J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 is one of the most anticipated and mystery-enshrouded films of the summer. The hype for this sci-fi family pic has been off the charts, and Abrams and co. have been tight-lipped and secretive about this quaint coming-of-age tale with a sci-fi twist. But the shroud is about to be lifted as Super 8 crashes into theaters on June 10.
A little casting tidbit has been released about new characters introduced in upcoming The Walking Dead Season 2, the highly-anticipated second season to AMC’s popular TV zombie apocalypse series. According to TV Line, new characters will be introduced as our gang of survivors stumble upon Hershel’s Farm early on in Season 2.
