Coming out this weekend is the hilarious remake 21 Jump Street. No, it doesn’t have cheesy 80's fashions or blunt racial stereotypes like the original TV series, but it does bring on the laughs.
21 Jump Street takes the basic concept of the original series, and uses it to create an action/comedy that is not only palatable to modern audiences, but appealing as well.
What I can definitely tell you, without giving away any of its secrets, is that Cabin In The Woods is going to be a pleasant surprise for just about everyone.
Austin’s own SXSW film festival 2012 is fast approaching, and now it’s time to fill out those screening schedules and decide what can‘t be missed, and what‘s expendable. The film slate this year looks pretty intriguing, and it really has to be to live up to the edgy films of last year (like James Wan’s spooky tale Insidious, and Xavier Gens’ apocalyptic horror The Divide).
Xavier Gens’ disturbing new vision is a visceral post-apocalyptic thriller that explores the darker side of human nature. The Divide isn’t just a thrilling survival film set against the back-drop of a nuclear holocaust; it’s a dark and disturbing look at humanity at its worst. Premiering at Austin’s SXSW film fest this week, I got a chance to check it out. Read on for my thoughts on the film.
This film begins, literally, with a bang. It starts the adrenaline pumping from the opening sequence and doesn’t let up until the ending credits role. It opens with an explosion, and through an apartment window we are treated to a view of mushroom clouds and a wall of fire. Everything spirals into chaos. Everyone in the urban apartment building is running down stairs, screaming, crying, and when another explosion demolishes the front of the building eight people make it down to the heavy basement door.
Tom Hardy, who plays the hulking villain Bane in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, and director Christopher Nolan shared some insight on Batman’s nemesis in a recent interview with Empire Magazine. Hardy talked about the ultimate brutality of the character, and Nolan praised Bane as a villain who can challenge Batman both physically and mentally.
This list is an ode to the family fun and frenzy of the holiday season, which is most definitely upon us. Thanksgiving marks a time for overindulgence, snoring soundly in front of the TV football game, risking life and limb by shopping on Black Friday, and suffering general family togetherness (where many of us adults will still be sitting at the kids’ table).
