The Levelling is a wonderful first feature from Hope Dickson Leach. Morose beyond measure, but leavened with subtle hope via Ellie Kendrick's superb central performance.
There's just about enough in Sweet Dreams to make it worthwhile. Yes it's static, yes it's dour and by Christ does it take its time getting anywhere, but the good just about outweighs the bad.

About mid-way through Takashi Miike’s Yakuza Apocalypse a man with a beak walks into the room. Wearing dramatic makeup, waving big green rubber hands and with a some kind of shell on his back he gaily prances around, offending everyone with his halitosis. His presence is never explained.
