Although many superhero movies have graced the silver screen since The Dark Knight Trilogy concluded its run back in 2012, it could be argued that very few to follow have laid claim to having the same cultural impact or have garnered as much praise. Really, in addition to Batman Begins being the film that put the reboot concept on the map, it, and the trilogy as a whole, showed that comic book flicks were capable of doing much more than just selling toys - they could tell stories as rich and as layered as what can be found in the source material itself.
Even though Dark Nights: Metal is currently unfolding, DC has decided to make a bold move by launching yet another event series in the form of Doomsday Clock. Sure, "event fatigue" is a very real thing, but when you factor in that the latest project coming to us by way of the all-star team-up that is Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, and that the last year and a half of Rebirth storytelling have led up to this, well, then I'll most definitely welcome such a 12-issue series with open arms.
Although Cameron Monaghan has never been a part of Gotham‘s principal cast, many would likely argue – and I would agree with them – that Jerome Valeska has easily emerged as the finest villain the series has thus far produced, thanks to sharp writing and the young actor’s incredible performances. Now, that’s not meant to be a knock against Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin or Cory Michael Smith’s Riddler, but it’s just a testament to how well Monaghan has brought this proto-Joker to life.
With Justice League having finally arrived in cinemas, it’s only understandable that the folks at DC Entertainment experience team-up fever. Sure, they may publish an ongoing comic of the same title featuring that very squad of superheroes, but that doesn’t mean they can’t pare it down in other books by more intimately exploring the relationships between certain characters.
Although it's taken some serious catching up, we DC fans are slowly seeing our favorite superheroes making their way to the big screen. Well, that is, those who aren't Superman or Batman, the cash cows that Warner Bros. have been banking on for more than three quarters of a century.
In the latest round of throwing whatever you can at a wall and seeing what'll stick, Fox is continuing to expand its ever-broadening X-Men film franchise with an installment that'll no doubt come as a shock to many. Believe it or not, the latest mutant they intend shining the spotlight on is none other than Multiple Man.
It’s not often that you can remember what you were doing a decade ago, but in this case, I can. Ten years ago at this time, I was vehemently following the production of Justice League Mortal, looking for any news I could find online pertaining to it. After all, this was set to be the first live action meet up of DC’s premier superheroes on the big screen.
As you may know, there are three things that are certain in life: Death, taxes and the fact that Damian Wayne is a total jerk. But hey, would you expect anything less from a brat who shares the genes of Batman and the daughter of Ra's al Ghul? Truth be told, it's one of the things I love about him, in addition to why he's my favorite Robin.
While we're all swept up in the hype that's heralding Justice League's arrival in cinemas this weekend, there are many of us who are understandably already looking forward to Wonder Woman 2. After all, lead actress Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins found the winning formula earlier this year with what this writer believes to be one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.
Even though we were promised no major crossover miniseries for at least 18 months after the conclusion of Secret Empire, that doesn’t mean there won’t be other storylines that’ll shake the Marvel Universe to its core. In fact, the House of Ideas fully intends on starting 2018 with a bang, thanks in no small part to Avengers: No Surrender.
