Seeing as how this past season of Arrow was deemed a return to form by many longtime viewers, it was quite pleasing to see that last night's finale was one of the best in series history - if not the best. Thanks to it being the final phase in Prometheus' deadly game along with featuring a slew of guest stars and effectively capping Oliver Queen's five-year backstory in the flashbacks, it truly felt like everything had come full circle. But one aspect will undoubtedly cause conversation to run rampant from now through October: Death, and lots of it.
Although the first season of Supergirl was no slouch, I agree with many viewers in saying that its sophomore run was a vast improvement. It wasn't just that the show was finding its footing, but there's the undeniable benefit that comes along with being a superhero series airing on The CW. In other words, it's apparent that the network affords more creative freedom, thereby allowing comic book based shows to stay truer to their source material.
At the very end of the season finale of Supergirl that aired this past Monday, we were treated to one cryptic flashback, to say the least. As it turns out, another rocket left Krypton upon its destruction around the same time Kara's did. The major difference, however, is that some bizarre cult presided over the figure contained within, seemingly baptizing it with blood.
Without a doubt, Warner Bros. Animation have been on a roll in 2017 when it comes to their direct-to-video line of DC animated films, already having impressed audiences with the R-rated supernatural adventure Justice League Dark and the long overdue Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. As for what lies ahead, well, it looks like they're about to appeal to our nostalgic side with Batman and Harley Quinn.
Well, it certainly looks like Weapons of Mutant Destruction is doing a great job of creating some advance buzz, now doesn't it? Just days ago, we previewed some of the first issues to be included in this mammoth crossover, so we can fully understand why retailers have seemingly already bought up all copies of one of the prelude chapters, Totally Awesome Hulk #19, and why it's already scheduled for a second printing.
After being left less than satisfied by season 4, I must say that I share the jubilation expressed by other longtime fans of Arrow having witnessed the series return to form in the past year with what has been a truly incredible fifth season. Seeing as how the star-studded finale is merely hours away from airing, let's hope that it delivers by offering a conclusion worthy of the 22 episodes that paved its way.
Say what you want about Gotham and its radical reinterpretation of the Batman mythos, but it's been on a hell of a roll this season. Although it came down to the wire, this writer, for one, thanks his lucky stars that the DC Comics adaptation has been renewed for a fourth season, albeit on a different night.
For better or worse, the big crossover involving Batman and The Flash is now behind us. Sure, some of us had mixed feelings regarding it, but we can all likely agree that it's for the best the collected edition compile all four issues into one seamless tome as opposed to dividing them up in forthcoming volumes of each respective series.
Since the dawn of the Rebirth era, the Superman family of books have absolutely been on fire, restoring the Man of Steel and his related to characters to their former glory that some readers thought the New 52 simply lacked. And, from what we can tell, they won't cool off anytime in the foreseeable future. In fact, just this week, we found out that Big Blue and Lex Luthor are set to confront Mr. Oz over in Action Comics this August and, that very same month, his eponymous title will take full advantage of the crossover potential that comes with being a part of the DC Universe.
Although last night's final showdown with Savitar was certainly one to remember, we can probably all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that The Flash is now putting the notion of having evil speedsters serving as its big bads behind it. And, as if there were any doubt, yet another teaser was dropped for who may very well be next year's overarching villain.
