Progress on Neill Blomkamp's touted Alien 5 sequel has slowed down since its official announcement earlier this year. And according to a report from Bloody Disgusting it's a result of Fox's other Alien-related movie: Prometheus 2. While the studio is apparently still enthusiastic to relaunch the franchise, the site's intel says Fox is "being forced to hold off" until Ridley Scott begins production on the Prometheus sequel:
The M. Night Shyamalan brand was previously synonymous with sting-in-the-tail twists that jerked into view during the final strains of his tense final acts. The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs executed his signature move with flair and aplomb. Sadly, his name has since become inseparable from ridicule, due to his descent into a messy bricolage of genre, style and story with none of those elements coming out unscathed. So, will his next feature The Visit witness a return to his former glory?
As the last chapter in Paul WS Anderson's zombie action series edges closer to production, one of the sequel's returning stars has opened up on the future of the franchise. Bearing the title Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, it certainly exerts a finality to proceedings, which hasn't stopped the juggernaut series continuing after earlier sequels brandishing the equally dubious subtitles Afterlife, Extinction and Apocalypse. However, according to Ali Larter - who reprises her role as Claire Redfield - this actually is the last sequel.
Alison Brie has proven time and time again her versatility. She's demonstrated her dedication to serious depictions in Mad Men and ability to throw down her comedic genius in Community, both of which scored her fans on the small screen. Her cinematic opportunities have somewhat rescinded that same breadth of character, often leaving her with meatless supporting roles. Thankfully, her luck is on the turn for her next feature, Sleeping With Other People, in which she co-stars with another gifted comedian: Jason Sudeikis.
One of last year's sleeper comedy hits Ride Along generated $154 million on a budget of $25 million. Those types of numbers send sequels quickly into development, so it's no surprise that we're counting down to the release of Ride Along 2. To amp up excitement for the action comedy, Universal has dropped the first teaser poster featuring the two leads riffing on their pre-existing character traits.
No-one was impressed by the first Jem and The Holograms trailer, as fans complained about the liberties taken with their beloved animated series. The trouble all stems from adapting an '80s cartoon into a 2015 live-action movie, as any variation from the source material was bound to ruffle feathers. With the arrival of a new trailer though, could those preconceptions finally be smashed?
Following a dormant period off the cultural radar, the Power Rangers are, ahem, powering up for another go on the big screen. Lionsgate has Project Almanac's Dean Israelite at the helm of the tween superhero flick, working from a script by X-Men scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. A combination of their respective talents point towards a unique slant on the exhausted Power Rangers IP. And while little has been revealed from the studio about what we can expect when those hypercolor heroes burst back into the public sphere, a stream of new intel has just landed.
The third season of Twin Peaks has battled through the mire of development hell, and is now said to be approaching production. Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour Showtime CEO David Nevins confirmed that the series will pick up after its two-decade break this fall. "Shooting starts in September, thankfully," he told reporters, before being asked about the show's premiere date that's rumored to have been pushed to 2017:
The barrage of chatter surrounding Spider-Man's new wardrobe in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has, until now, remained concerned with what the teenage webhead's suit will look like. According to insider sources, it's an impressive piece of garb, and is expected to keep in line with The Avengers-style costumes worn by Spidey in the comics. Yesterday also witnessed the arrival of a 'leaked photo' of the latest Spider-Man incumbent Tom Holland clinging to a New York City skyscraper. Whether that's a true screenshot of Holland, decked out in a black facemask, wearing blue and red clothes is uncertain - although this author doubts its authenticity - apparently there's a bigger issue at the heart of the Spidey suit debate. He might wear more than one.
Universal's plans to reintroduce a new generation of moviegoers to its back catalogue of classic beasties have been met with mixed opinion. Initial press releases described the planned movies as action adventure with no references to their cinematic heritage - horror. Understandably so, fans vocalised their upset at the studio's proposed reboot remaining in line with the 1999 take on The Mummy. A fun romp, yes. Horror? No.
