Warner Bros. is still developing a remake of its 1976 movie Logan's Run after initial reports announcing the project surfaced back in 2011. At that point in the early development stages, the white-hot duo of director Nicolas Winding Refn and leading man Ryan Gosling stirred up plenty of interest in the remake. And for a while, their attachment kept it buoyant, as scripts were rustled up and financiers gathered. But sometimes enough's enough for Hollywood's heavy-hitters, and in later 2012, Gosling and Refn exited.
One of the earliest cast members announced for the Deadpool movie was Ed Skrein. The former Game Of Thrones alum, who exited that show to head up the new Transporter series, was long thought to be playing one of Deadpool's various adversaries. Considering the Merc with a Mouth's long list of enemies, the possibilities were endless, with the most popular fan theory positing that Skrein was to play Garrison Kane aka Weapon X.
Chatter surrounding the forthcoming sci-fi sequel Tron 3 has exploded in recent weeks, following an innocent slip in a local Vancouver paper alerting residents to the movie's production. However, the existence of a third Tron sequel wasn't entirely unknown prior to that announcement. In 2011, voice star Bruce Boxleitner confidently assured fans that a follow-up to that year's Tron: Legacy was definitely on the cards, and director Joseph Kosinski's prep on the sequel was so far along in 2013 that he went on the record comparing it to The Empire Strikes Back. To sum up the evidence, it's been a long time coming, but Tron 3 is on the way.
Since the first Iron Man treated audiences to a sneak peek of Nick Fury in its post-credits sequence, the stage was set. Every subsequent movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made full use of that allocated slot to clue in moviegoers to larger pieces of the overarching story (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), hint at potential villains (The Avengers) and revisit popular characters of yesteryear (Guardians Of The Galaxy). That trend is finally set to buck with this year’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron, as director Joss Whedon and Marvel brass Kevin Feige have announced the unthinkable.
This past weekend saw Furious 7 skid into theaters across the globe and rustle up a tidy sum at the box office. With its current haul roughly hovering around the $350 million mark, that sort of remuneration means future installments practically greenlight themselves. Of course, it's no secret that the high-octane gas-guzzling sequel would not be the final outing for Toretto's gang. Star Vin Diesel is betting on more sequels, after his recent promotional stint on the chat show circuit saw him announce the importance of Kurt Russell's character in Fast & Furious 8.
Since filming began last week on Tim Miller's Deadpool, the web has been inundated by hastily-snapped images from set onlookers. Over the course of seven days we've been granted up-close looks at Ryan Reynolds as the titular jokester sporting a ton of prosthetics on his face, Morena Baccarin in character as Copycat and Deadpool's sidekick Weasel lurking outside a seedy strip club.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's inherent likeability, barrelled biceps and willingness to fight any cinematic opponent has transformed the one-time wrestler into a studio's dream. His presence in several waning franchises has earned him several tags attesting to his ability to pep up the most exhausted of series. From Fast & Furious to G.I. Joe, the mere sight of Johnson has bolstered box office takings every single time. Based on a recent interview with director Brad Peyton, Johnson's similar effect on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island looks set to continue in its follow-up sequels Journey 3 and 4.
Filmmaker Joe Dante is responsible for some of the finest B-movie outings to emerge in the late 70s and early 80s. Pirahna, The Howling and Gremlins now exist as generous reminders of an era where monsters were rendered painstakingly with animatronics and puppetry. More recently, Dante's devout approach saw him tackle kiddie-centric thriller The Hole, which is in this writer's opinion vastly underrated. While he's taken a breather from features to focus on TV (Splatter, Witches Of East End and Hawaii Five-O), the horror helmer returns to his origin genre for Burying The Ex.
With the blockbuster season in full swing we're fast approaching the release of several highly-anticipated movies, but also the worldwide premieres of many high-profile trailer debuts. Warner is getting in on the action next month as Mad Max: Fury Road will roll out in theaters across the country with the first ever Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice teaser attached. Similarly, Disney is doubling down on Avengers: Age Of Ultron's expected numbers to unveil the second trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Furious 7 hit theaters across the world this past weekend, thoroughly dousing cinemagoers in more grandiose action-porn than any of the previous installments dared to produce. Around the franchise's fifth outing, Fast Five, the racing element gave way to make room for bigger, global adventures for Dom's crew. Part of that expansion saw the inclusion of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as government agent Hobbs. Oddly enough, his onscreen counterpart spends much of Furious 7's screen time laid up in the hospital, leaving most of us desperate for his powerhouse action hero antics. But fear not, because Johnson's back in the saddle for San Andreas.
