After a somewhat muted reception at last year's Cannes Film Festival, the trailer for Ryan Gosling's directorial debut Lost River has landed online. Described in initial promo materials as being set in “the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city,” this first preview definitely suggests that that description is bang on the money.
Currently making the transition from child actor to teen actor - presumably with the hopes of becoming a fully-realised adult actor - Asa Butterfield has another project to assist on his career path. Per THR, the Hugo star has now bagged the lead role in Relativity's sci-fi effort, Out Of This World. The rising star will be directed by Peter Chelsom (Hector and the Search for Happiness), who himself will be working from revisions he and Tinker Linsday made to Allan Loeb (Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps)'s original script.
The latest trailer for comic book teen spy adaptation, Kingsman: The Secret Service, has arrived online with a wallop, ker-blam and POW! Of course it has: it's the Super Bowl teaser. Much like yesterday's Terminator: Genisys tease and the first Avengers: Age Of Ultron spot, the emphasis here is on the razzle dazzle.
During last night's Super Bowl, all eyes and all talk was mainly concerned with either the actual sporting event itself, the bizarre mid-show extravaganza or the Jurassic World trailer. Of course, many other big-name films debuted super-mix teasers to appeal to those watching at home, and it seems that amidst all the excitement, we seem to have missed one particularly cool trailer - NBC's next event series, Aquarius.
The adaptation of E.L. James' best-selling worldwide phenomenon, Fifty Shades Of Grey, arrives in cinemas shortly, and that means several things. First off, the quantity of trailers, clips and teasers released has escalated. It's nigh on impossible to switch on a TV, turn on the radio or browse the web without either hearing or seeing the words "Mr. Grey will see you now," as if that dominant expression is somehow expected to make the population quiver. Second of all, it means that before the impressionable public can fork out their hard-earned cash to see it, the film must first be granted a ratings certificate.
Star of The Matrix trilogy, Carrie-Anne Moss, has joined the cast of Marvel's upcoming Netflix series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Her addition to the expanding crew of supporting characters is the third in as many weeks. A sign that Marvel and Netflix are gearing up to enter production, no doubt.
George R.R. Martin is constantly plagued with questions surrounding the release of his next novel in the Song Of Ice and Fire series. Due to his slow writing pace, his work - the source material for HBO's hugely popular Game Of Thrones - has nearly been superseded by the show itself. However, that's not to say his phenomenal imaginative streak is limited to the realm of the Seven Kingdoms. Far from it, in fact.
Since the last Harry Potter film landed in 2011, fans of franchise creator J.K. Rowling have clung to the possibility of further magical exploits for Harry and co. While Rowling is hard at work scripting Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, which will centre on a young magician named Newt Scamander, it's only set in the same world and won't feature the original trio. So perhaps a more satisfying dose of Rowling's creative output can be found in the next screen adaptation of her work, The Casual Vacancy.
Open Road Films has today announced details of its forthcoming thriller, Sleepless Night, that's set to include The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Jamie Foxx and True Detective star Michelle Monaghan in leading roles. A loose re-telling of Frederic Jardin's French film Nuit Blanche, the Americanised take will shift the focus to the shimmering deserts and illuminated sidewalks of Las Vegas.
Before she straps on the proton pack to bag a trapful of New York City's spooks, Kristen Wiig will be revelling in the joys of being very, very rich for Welcome To Me. Directed by Shira Piven, the film debuted at last year's Toronto International Film Festival with little fanfare. So far it has snagged positive reviews from critics, most of which aim praise directly at Wiig. Now that the folks at Film Divider have signalled the existence of the movie's teaser, we can catch a glimpse at her celebrated performance.
