In perhaps the coolest, nerdiest spot of interstellar marketing, the front page of The Martian's script made its way onto a NASA spacecraft earlier this month. Per Empire, the title page from Drew Goddard's screenplay was included in a capsule for the maiden trek of NASA’s Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV). The mission, which took off on December 5th, saw the craft shoot up 5600 miles above Earth for its four-and-a-half hour journey. The film's executive producer Aditya Sood revealed why exactly the page was involved:
As Sony's strife with the cyber-hack continues, one of their projects recently that shuffled to another studio is charging forward. After the studio bailed on their Steve Jobs biopic, Universal swooped in to pick up the pieces. With a script from Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle in the director's chair, it's hard to believe this project ever had difficulty locking down its cast during its time with Sony... but Universal aren't messing around. Per Variety, Oscar-winner Kate Winslet is now in the running for the female lead.
Universal's Sisters has all the makings of a comic classic and it's still a year away from release. Directed by Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore from a script by SNL scribe Paula Pell, those two factors alone suggest it could be next year's biggest chucklefest. On top of that winning foundation, throw two small-screen comics who have completely invigorated the TV slate with 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation and you can consider us very, very excited.
The plush foul-mouthed bear who cleaned up at the 2012 box office returns to the big screen for more tomfoolery in Ted 2. Set for release next year, the sequel will attempt to replicate the success of the original by enlisting Mark Wahlberg once more to assist the pint-sized plushie. After it took a whopping $550 million worldwide, Ted went on to become one of the most successful R-rated movies of all time. The question is; will the second adventure for the thunder buddies do the same?
Sony's woes are far from over. A new wave of controversy surrounding political comedy The Interview has arrived this morning, in the wake of more demands from the cyber-terrorists responsible for the Sony hack. In light of Sony Pictures Entertainment pulling the movie from theatrical release, the so-called Guardians Of Peace issued another message addressing the studio's compliance (via CNN):
Warner Bros. has revealed the first trailer for Will Ferrell's upcoming comedy, Get Hard. From director Etan Cohen, the Gary Sanchez-produced pic looks primed to kickstart Ferrell's slapstick antics, which have been sorely missing from the cinema calendar as of late.
The first image from the upcoming Steven Spielberg thriller has arrived online. For the as-yet untitled cold war movie, the true story follows a lawyer enlisted by the CIA to negotiate the safe return of a U.S. pilot shot down over Soviet airspace in 1960. In his fourth collaboration with the filmmaker, Tom Hanks stars as attorney, James Donovan with Alan Alda, Amy Ryan and Mark Rylance rounding out the main cast.
The first trailer for Clint Eastwood's war drama, American Sniper, dropped before the first round of reviews. Now that the initial critical opinions are in - mostly mixed - the second attempt to rev up audiences for the pic has arrived in the shape of a new full-length trailer and clip.
Following its premiere at Sundance this year, The Voices hit the festival circuit and bagged a cloud of mixed reviews. In spite of its calamitous debut, the scattered horror comedy has at last been granted a simultaneous VOD and theatrical U.S. release date. Along with that, a couple of new images have made their way online to remind us of how eccentric this film truly is.
There's a scarcity of decent gardening movies for the discerning green-thumbed moviegoer. Luckily, that's all about to change in 2015 with the release of period drama, A Little Chaos. Directed by and starring Alan Rickman, the film revolves around his King Louis XIV who hires Matthias Schoenaerts' architect to design a spectacular garden for the Palace of Versailles. He in turn enlists Kate Winslet's landscape designer to bring his vision to life... and possibly pop off with him to the shed for some nookie.
