Tonight's taut and thrilling installment of The Strain is markedly different from those which preceded it - "Creatures of the Night" is probably as close to a bottle episode as we'll ever see from this show, and it benefits tremendously from that tightened focus.
This summer hasn't been too kind to horror fans. The Purge: Anarchy took that franchise into thriller territory, while Deliver Us from Evil was a disappointment. Luckily, Universal and Legendary are aiming to earn our screams later this month with As Above, So Below, a found-footage, psychological horror-thriller starring Perdita Weeks, Ben Feldman and Edwin Hodge. Now, ahead of the film's August 29th release, We Got This Covered has a great contest for you.
Hail to the king indeed. In the weeks leading up to today's Primetime Emmy Awards, the question on everyone's mind was whether voters would honor Breaking Bad, widely considered to be one of TV's greatest series, in its absolutely stunning final season, or instead recognize newcomer True Detective, which left jaws dangling with its ambitious mixture of gritty atmosphere, philosophy and master-class acting.
Here's hoping that the bigwigs over at Marvel are keeping an eye on news sites today. Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall, who also directed historical action epic Centurion, has voiced his enthusiasm at the prospect of directing a possible Black Widow spinoff for the studio somewhere down the line.
Ahead of the found-footage horror thriller's release this Friday, Universal has unveiled a red band trailer for As Above, So Below, and the results are... confusing? Disorienting? Freaky? All of the above, sure, but what it isn't is particularly engaging.
Guy Ritchie has been flying under the radar lately (his last film was Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows back in 2011), but we'll finally get to see the helmer's next project next summer. After numerous date changes, Warner Bros. has settled on an August 2015 release for The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which reintroduces the 1964 TV series to a new generation.
With True Detective and Breaking Bad duking it out at the Emmys tonight, it's never been clearer that television is on the verge of overtaking cinema in terms of entertainment value, if it hasn't already. And now we're hearing about another small-screen project with absolutely extraordinary potential - HBO and Paramount are reportedly plotting a Shutter Island-related series tentatively titled Ashecliffe, with intentions for that thriller's director Martin Scorsese to helm a pilot scripted by Shutter Island author Dennis Lehane.
Does this make up for Hawkeye being a mindless slave throughout most of The Avengers? Not quite, Joss, not quite. Empire Magazine featured next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron in its latest issue, showcasing a new costume for Jeremy Renner's famed archer (below). Director Joss Whedon is included in the shot too, trying his best to show Renner exactly what kind of badass fighting stance the actor should be adopting.
Back in May, we learned that former The Walking Dead showrunner Glenn Mazzara was developing a sequel series to classic horror pic The Omen, titled Damien, and now Lifetime has announced that it's ordering the show straight to series with a six-episode pickup.
File this one under 'rumors' until we hear something more concrete, but This Is Infamous is reporting that Jack Huston, the up-and-comer known for his role on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, is in the running to play the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel's upcoming Phase Three title Doctor Strange.
