Considering how beloved both of these movies are, I'm going to preface this post by saying that this news, originally published by The Tracking Board, is still classified as a rumor until we see something official. However, if the site's report is true, it's very exciting news. Word on the interwebs this week is that Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, has signed on to produce new installments of cult classics Gremlins and The Goonies.
Public interest in the Tom Cruise-anchored Mission: Impossible franchise had started to wane after the lackluster second installment, but 2011's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol did a tremendous job of breathing new life into the blockbuster series by bringing in The Incredibles director Brad Bird and introducing appealing characters played by Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton. So, now that casting for Mission: Impossible 5 is finally getting under way, we're definitely interested in who's joining Cruise's super-spy Ethan Hunt for his next adventure.
Though Gladiator filmmaker Ridley Scott is still in post-production putting the final touches on his upcoming Biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, the director is already planning to bring another fabled Biblical hero to the big screen. This time, Scott has set his sights on the story of David, said to have become the king of Israel after slaying the giant Goliath in his youth with a stone from his sling.
Though the second installment of Summit Entertainment's Divergent series, titled Insurgent, is still shooting in Atlanta and isn't due to hit theaters until next March, producers are already kicking threequel Allegiant - Part 1 into gear by recruiting Noah Oppenheim to script the entry, which will serve as the franchise's penultimate installment.
Today, We Got This Covered is happy to bring you an exclusive look at Gravitas' upcoming comedic drama Among Ravens, which will be releasing on-demand and in theaters on July 18th. In the clip, characters Wendy (Amy Smart) and Emma (Victoria Smurfit) examine an elusive art gallery piece and discuss Emma's reaction to her husband Saul (Russell Friedenberg) suddenly wanting to have children. The scene seems a good indicator of Among Ravens as a whole, spicing a very serious and sad topic with some much-appreciated humor.
With the buzzy sci-fi series Extant premiering tonight, high-rated returning fave Under the Dome on its way for later this summer, high-concept thriller Scorpion premiering this fall and James Patterson adaptation Zoo in the cards for the summer of 2015, CBS is in a pretty desirable spot right now. And the good news just keeps coming for the network, with word that CBS just inked a rich deal with streaming service Netflix so that the site can offer Zoo, adapted from the novel by Patterson and Michael Ledwidge, as soon as it finishes airing.
No love for the deerstalker? In the first image from Mr. Holmes (previously titled A Slight Trick of the Mind), Sir Ian McKellen takes on the iconic role of Sherlock Holmes, but seems to have switched over to a more hip fedora in place of the detective's iconic headwear.
Despite all his Rage, he's still just Nicolas Cage. And so, anyone puts down a few bucks to see this movie probably knows what they're getting themselves into. Unfortunately for even the so-bad-he's-brilliant actor's most undemanding fans, however, this latest bargain-bin offering (previously titled Tokarev, after the make of a gun that winds up being integral to the story) is the worst thing that he's ever been associated with. Not even the promise of more bizarre line readings and hilariously weird facial expressions to add to Cage's already impressive collection of WTF moments is enough to make Rage worth your time.
Lionsgate has been surprisingly quiet about this fall's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 over the past few weeks, but that's changing today with an all-new broadcast from Donald Sutherland's totalitarian President Snow. Last time Snow addressed the nation of Panem, a stone-faced Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) was by his side, and in this second teaser he's still there - as is fellow Quarter Quell participant Johanna Mason (Jena Malone), though Johanna's sassy arm positioning suggests that some of her trademark spunk has survived the Capitol's brain-washing.
