Syfy is venturing out into space for its next limited series, titled Ascension. Created and written by Smallville's Philip Levens (who will also serve as the day-to-day showrunner), the six-hour series is expected to kick off in November and today, Cougar Town star Brian Van Holt has joined the cast in a major role.
How appropriate. As anyone who has been keeping tabs on the upcoming Jurassic World, directed by Safety Not Guaranteed helmer Colin Trevorrow, knows at this point, the sequel has been shooting for almost two months and is set mostly inside a functional theme park which features live dinosaurs. Now, news has emerged that the film is moving to New Orleans to shoot footage inside the old, abandoned Six Flags New Orleans amusement park.
File this one strictly under 'rumors' for the time being. Zack Snyder is hard at work right now on Warner Bros.' hotly anticipated Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, a blockbuster which appears to be primed to include just about every DC Comics character under the sun. Now, we're hearing from fansite Batman-on-Film that Commissioner James Gordon is going to make an appearance.
After a long hiatus and period of uncertainty following the tragic death of star Paul Walker last year, Universal's Fast & Furious 7 is back on track and production has started up again. Today, Vin Diesel shared with fans a rather emotional image from the upcoming blockbuster (above), showing his character Dom Toretto embracing his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster).
Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy has found a niche playing slovenly yet oddly likable protagonists, and she'll be taking viewers on a ride with her wildest creation yet this July when she unveils Tammy, a road trip comedy which McCarthy co-wrote with her director and off-screen husband Ben Falcone. Now, Warner Bros. has revealed a trio of posters which find McCarthy's character declaring her independence in a number of strange, albeit funny ways.
After playing the same part in an acclaimed West End play version, Dame Maggie Smith has agreed to take on the title role in the upcoming memoir adaptation The Lady in the Van.
Jorge Dorado's Anna, previously known as Mindscape, has drawn unfavorable comparisons to Christopher Nolan's Inception, due to the fact that both films involve a man peering inside the minds and memories of others to uncover long-hidden secrets. However, if you're interested in checking out this thriller, the absolute best thing you could do for yourself would be to get that comparison out of your head. Anna is nowhere near as creative, original or exciting as that now-classic mind-bender. It's not even on the same level. Instead, Anna is a much smaller-scale affair, content to deliver passable thrills and predictable twists while giving its two leads, Mark Strong and Taissa Farmiga, plenty of time to shine.
I think most of us can agree that Homeland went sharply downhill somewhere in its third season. And that was a real shame, considering how brilliant the Emmy-winning first season, and slightly lesser but still deeply enjoyable second season, of the Showtime thriller actually were. Now, the show is prepping its fourth season, which is something of a reboot following the conclusion of the Nicholas Brody storyline that had previously propelled the show forward, and has recruited two talented actors to fill the void left by Damian Lewis: Corey Stoll and Laila Robins.
By all accounts, Josh Boone's adaptation of the bestselling John Green tearjerker The Fault in Our Stars will be a force to be reckoned with when it opens in theaters on Friday. Just how huge the film about love-struck, cancer-stricken teens will be, however, is still unclear - but we know that the box office haul is going to be massive.
Roland Emmerich is best known for his effects-heavy disaster epics, from Independence Day to 2012, but the director will be working on a much smaller scale for his next film, the gay rights drama Stonewall. Today, ahead of the start of production, The Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Sons of Anarchy actor Ron Perlman, in addition to Fargo actress Joey King, have come aboard.
