Widely hailed as one of the finest television shows of all time, The Sopranos curiously never got a full Blu-Ray release - up until this point, the only seasons of the show to receive Blu-Ray upgrades were the first and the sixth. Now, however, fans of the James Gandolfini-led crime drama will be able to get their fix with a complete series set, which will be released on Blu-Ray later this year.
At this point in his career, Woody Allen could really work with just about any actor or actress he so desires. This summer, he'll unveil his latest, Magic in the Moonlight, a romantic caper set in 1920s France, starring Colin Firth, Emma Stone, Marcia Gay Harden and Jacki Weaver. That's a set of stars a lot of directors would bend over backwards for, but that kind of cast is just business as usual for Allen. After Magic in the Moonlight, Allen will work with the highly talented Joaquin Phoenix, who'll topline Allen's next film alongside Emma Stone. Now, details are beginning to emerge about the film.
The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival is turning out to be quite an exciting event for fans of classic sci-fi. Earlier today, we brought you Sigourney Weaver's comments that she "could imagine" returning to the Alien franchise for a fifth installment in the future, and now we have news that James Cameron is interested in revisiting one of his classics too - albeit in a slightly less exciting way. If comments he made to an inquisitive audience member are to be believed, a 3D release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a definite possibility.
NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has dominated the media since June of last year, when he leaked thousands of classified documents to various outlets in what has been described as one of the most significant leaks in U.S. history since Daniel Ellsberg released the Pentagon Papers. Naturally, multiple studios are chomping at the bit to turn Snowden's compelling story into an equally compelling (and hopefully lucrative) movie. Now, one is taking shape with JFK director Oliver Stone at the helm.
It's been a whole 17 years since Alien Resurrection, the last installment of the iconic Alien film franchise, entered theaters to mixed reviews and found a cloned version of hero Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) fighting predatorial aliens once again. Fans of that series have largely moved on and accepted that they'll never see another installment (the awful Alien vs. Predator spinoffs certainly do not count, and neither does the loosely connected Prometheus). However, Weaver was recently quoted at the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival saying some things which suggest she's not entirely opposed to reprising the role in a potential Alien 5, if asked to.
How this fall will shake out in terms of the 2015 Oscar race is largely still a mystery, but few films have as much clout behind them heading into the second half of the year as Sarah Gavron's Suffragette. With its absolutely loaded cast and thrilling, true-history story, Suffragette is basically Oscar bait at its finest. With An Education's Carey Mulligan, Les Miserables' Helena Bonham Carter and Nowhere Boy's Ann-Marie Duff in the cast, not to mention Meryl Streep, this is shaping up to be one formidable awards contender.
Star Wars: Episode VII (possibly subtitled The Ancient Fear) is still over a year away, but filming has gotten underway in Abu Dhabi, which means that all manner of press photographers have been hanging around in hopes of gaining new information about the hotly anticipating franchise update.
The fourth episode of Showtime's Penny Dreadful, titled "Demimonde," feels like an improvement over the past episodes of the show in every way. It's extremely sexy, scary and compelling television, complete with some extremely intriguing plot developments and character progressions that make me excited to see how Penny Dreadful's second half (for Showtime only ordered eight episodes for the show's first season) continues the story.
Eli Roth is one of the biggest names in mainstream horror right now, thanks to the success of his Hostel and Cabin Fever franchises. His fingerprints are also all over many other projects, from Netflix series Hemlock Grove to The Last Exorcism, the upcoming Knock Knock and WE tv's recently announced South of Hell series. However, Roth's next project in theaters will be the long anticipated cannibal flick The Green Inferno.
