CBS is banking on the built-in appeal of existing properties as it plans out its fall schedule, with pickups todays for four dramas - Limitless, Rush Hour, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and Code Black - and two comedies - Life In Pieces and Angel From Hell.
Dolph Lundgren hasn't enjoyed the same continued prominence as many of his equally hulking, stone-jawed peers - unlike Arnie, who has a new Terminator out this summer, or Sylvester Stallone, who'll play Rocky again for fall spinoff Creed, the towering Swede has been contained to bargain-bin fare and occasional cameos in The Expendables. And though no one is contesting his ability to throw a punch, Lundgren still hasn't had his True Lies moment, so to speak.
With Fox's upfront presentation scheduled for May 11, the network has kicked off series commitments with orders for one drama and three comedies. Medical drama Rosewood, Rob Lowe comedy vehicle The Grinder, John Stamos-led comedy Grandfathered and mini The Guide to Surviving Life are Fox's first series orders for the fall.

The second season of True Detective is one of the can't-miss events of this summer, but according to showrunner Nic Pizzolatto, those expecting an identical experience to the Gothic, non-linear first season will be in for a bit of a surprise.
Paul Greengrass doesn't give up, you've got to give him that. The Captain Phillips helmer has been attempting to craft a Jimi Hendrix biopic for over four years, and despite lots of stops and starts along the way, the project is once again alive at Legendary Pictures. 8 Mile scribe Scott Silver is penning a draft for the untitled film, which has finally received the go-ahead from Experience Hendrix, the musician's estate.
Jeff Nichols, who earned widespread acclaim for his dramas Take Shelter and Mud, has next lined up Loving, a drama he wrote and will shoot this September. Warrior actor Joel Edgerton and World War Z actress Ruth Negga are attached to lead the drama in the roles of Richard and Mildred Loving, the couple at the center of 1967 civil rights case Loving v. Virginia.
After distancing himself from the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon may be heading to a galaxy far, far away if Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and others at Disney have their way. That's the gist of a new rumor report from Latino Review, which boils its circumspect, rambling story down into this: "Joss Whedon’s circling Star Wars. They are courting him. He is very tired, but - hey! - it’s Star Wars."
"And the Oscar goes to..." is clearly the phrase on Universal's mind today, now that the studio has dated Angelina Jolie's Unbroken follow-up By the Sea for the very award-friendly date of November 13.
With pickups for the fall season in full swing, NBC is betting on three comedies, from Ride Along producer Will Packer, Hot in Cleveland's Suzanne Martin and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer.
