The Toxic Avenger is one of the best exploitation films ever produced and is a true 1980s B-movie classic. It effortlessly fused together the superhero and horror genres to create a brilliantly comedic display of violence and gratuity. As such, it was followed by a line of sequels, and talk of a remake has gone on and off for the better part of a decade. In fact, at one point, even Arnold Schwarzenegger was attached.
There are currently two sequels to iconic horror franchises being held by Dimension Films. They are, of course, none other than Hellraiser: Judgment and Children of the Corn: Runaway.
One thing that can always be expected in a Rob Zombie film is that he often uses horror genre icons and veterans. A great example of this is his 2005 effort The Devil’s Rejects. The House of 1000 Corpses sequel features appearances from stars like Ken Foree, Michael Berryman and P.J. Soles among others, but it turns out that one very interesting actress actually refused to be in the film - none other than Adrienne Barbeau.
When Wes Craven directed the 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street, no one could have predicted what a success it’d become. The horror genre from that point onward was changed, just as Halloween had impacted it a few years earlier and films like Psycho even before that. With Craven’s name having such a new meaning in the industry, fans were eager for his next effort. They craved something with blood-curdling terror and violence and while his next project entitled Deadly Friend was indeed violent, it sure wasn’t another Elm Street.
