Microsoft have proudly revealed that their latest title in their flagship franchise, Halo 5: Guardians has generated a total of more than $400 million in global sales during its first week on the market. The release drives the total Halo franchise revenue to over $5 billion, and includes the sales of games and hardware.
With just 7 days to go until the release of Fallout 4, Bethesda have been drip feeding information to fans on their blog. On Monday, they published a detailed post that reveals new information about the upcoming post apocalyptic RPG and the music behind it. For the first time in the history of the franchise, Fallout 4 will feature original songs, written specifically for the game.
Publishing Behemoth Activision Blizzard has announced that it will acquire King Digital Entertainment for the not inconsiderable sum of $5.9 billion. King is the company behind mobile hits like Candy Crush Saga and Bubble Witch Saga and is the sworn enemy of productivity the world over. The acquisition of King will turn Activision Blizzard, according to a release, into "one of the largest global entertainment networks, with over half a billion combined monthly users active in 196 countries."
Fallout 4 's End User License Agreement (or EULA) contains an interesting tidbit that reveals a lot about how Bethesda's fingers were burned following their controversial decision to allow modders to charge for their content on the PC version of Skyrim. As noticed by NeoGaf user Gossi and reported by Kotaku, the EULA for Fallout 4 contains wording which suggests that paid mods will currently not be a part of Fallout 4, or perhaps ever.
Mod tools will hit in 2016 for the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Publisher Activision and developer Treyarch revealed in a blog post that modding tools and support have been one of the "top requests" from the series' rabid fanbase, and the studio is looking forward to finally providing them in the new game.
Knee Deep Act 1: Wonderland released on Steam on July 6th to great fanfare within a few niche circles of the gaming community, and a few criticisms from adventure game fans. Developer Prologue Games have doubled down on the criticisms of the first part, and in Knee Deep Act 2: Festival, they've done everything they can to polish up the series and fix the minor niggles to make the second entry into the series something truly special. Indie horror hit Five Night's At Freddy's 4 Halloween update has finally landed. While the title itself was initially slated to launch today, it ended up releasing very early, on July 23rd. So, developer Scott Cawthon has had plenty of time to develop some themed Halloween frights for his loyal fans.
Knee Deep Act 1: Wonderland is part one of a trio of adventure, narrative driven titles coming fresh from indie developers Prologue Games. While Telltale have long had a stranglehold on the adventure genre, Knee Deep is entirely unique in it's style, harking back to the glory days of classic adventure games like Grim Fandango and the Monkey Island series. While it's experiment in it's text heavy, pulpy world isn't always successful, it's different enough that you should stand up and take note.
Mass Effect: Andromeda has come under fire from series fans for lacking Commander Shepard, the protagonist from the previous three games. However, BioWare remain optimistic that the latest foray for the franchise will thrive even without Shepard on board.
