While We Have a Pope contains an interesting idea for a film, it ultimately fails to portray the struggle Cardinal Melville is going through, which is the centerpiece of the entire film.
ATM's flawed premise leads to a film that lacks the necessary tension and character development to keep the audience engaged in the story. Furthermore, the characters' unwillingness to act on their situation merely makes for a very frustrating film.
While Meryl Streep's performance is brilliant, the film unfortunately reduces the life of the amazing Margaret Thatcher to a montage of events that don't tell us very much about her.
While the second film is not nearly as good as the first, this set is more than worth picking up for the great original film as well as the excellent special features.
