If there's one thing American DJ/producer 3LAU is good at, it's mashups - as a matter of fact, he's put out five albums' worth over the past four years or so. As of January 9th, though, he'll have six under his belt as that's the official release date of Dance Floor Filth Five.
Look, we get it - when the biggest tragedy of 2015 takes place, it's not exactly a smart PR move to stick with a brand that some might interpret as glorifying what transpired. Nonetheless, following the attacks on Paris last year, Boulder, CO producer Kill Paris announced that he would, for the foreseeable future, perform under the stage name "Chill Harris," and quite frankly I've never felt more like the terrorists won.
The dismal failure of last summer's We Are You Friends does not appear to have deterred everyone from attempting on-camera adaptations of electronic music culture. Primary Wave Entertainment has announced a new television project in development centered around DJ culture and the world of electronic music, announcing none other than Steve Angello as executive producer.
Shortly after the turn of the new year is as good a time as any for a world-class DJ/producer to remind their fans that they've got an album on the way. Wolfgang Gartner, for instance, has taken the opportunity to reveal that his long-awaited follow up to 2011's Weekend In America will come out shortly before the end of the month.
Electronic music's growth rise into mainstream consciousness has not gone unnoticed, as even Forbes has chronicled the movement's prominence in the entertainment marketplace as of late. Case in point: In the publication's 2016 edition of its annual 30 Under 30 music list, DJ Snake, Krewella and Jake Udell had entries.
After a somewhat tumultuous 2015, Mat Zo has revealed that he will release his follow up to 2013's Damage Control in early February. A particularly below-the-belt Twitter tirade saw the English DJ/producer attack the likes of Tiësto and Armin Van Buuren, but despite the bridges he might have burned in the process he's managed to move forward with his career.
While countless artists under the EDM umbrella released year end mixes that effectively summed up their 2015 accomplishments, Dutch label Spinnin' Records has uploaded a mix to their SoundCloud account intended to preview what's to come in 2016. Clocking in at nearly an hour and 20 minutes of funky, soulful future house, 2016 Future Hits features 42 tracks of either recently released or upcoming tracks from the imprint.
Love them or hate them, there aren't a great many acts which found themselves in the right place at the right time in 2015 the way Jack Ü did. The collaborative project between bass music icons Skrillex and Diplo practically became the poster children of EDM movement, and in conjunction with SiriusXM they've put out a mix that captures the breadth of their creativity over the past year.
New year, new Diplo? That certainly looks to be the case, as the bass music pioneer came across gushier than usual in a recent post to his Facebook page. Most importantly, though, buried under a diatribe in which he all but confessed his love for Skrillex, Diplo mentioned for the first time that the two of them were hoping to release a new album in 2016 as Jack Ü.
Just when it sounded like the ink had dried on an agreement which would spare Martin Garrix and Spinnin' Records a long and ugly legal battle, a release issued by the latter party reveals that, in an ironic turn of events, they will be pursuing legal action against Garrix.
