Cryptic DJ/producer Zhu has released the tracks of his Genesis Series at a rapid-fire rate. He kicked things off with his widely celebrated AlunaGeorge collaboration shortly before releasing "As Crazy As It Is" alongside A-Trak and Keznamdi, and now he continues the series with his highly anticipated Bone Thugs-N-Harmony joint effort.
It's not every day that main stage EDM makes you feel something, but with Paris & Simo at the helm it happens a lot more often. The Canadian progressive house duo puts out the kind of hoover synth-heavy bangers that have Revealed Recordings written all over them, and their latest track only adds to their repertoire of progressive house anthems.
As a vehicle for a dozen or so singers from various musical walks to broaden their audience on an international scale, Avicii's Stories is a glowing success. As a cohesive album that serves to reinforce his emerging identity as an artist, though, it's a bit of a failure.
The Ibiza-based DJ Awards just celebrated its 18th edition, and even though DJ Mag holds down the fort when it comes to rankings of all things EDM, fans of dance music's more sophisticated side might rejoice in some of the former organization's selections.
'Veech, 'Veech and more 'Veech. Leading up to the official release of Avicii's sophomore album, Stories, the Swedish DJ/producer is dropping bombs from the full-length studio effort, and the latest takes the form of the melancholic "Gonna Love Ya."
Andrew Rayel is one of those trance-ish house artists that isn't particularly bad, but puts out tracks that are largely interchangeable with all the other main stage sample pack masterpieces on the market. Case in point: His remix of Tommy Trash and JHart's "Wake The Giant" sounds exactly like the original - or, at least, that's how I remember them because of how forgettable they both are.
I've admitted it before and I'll admit it again: One major mark against my street cred is my inexorable sweet tooth for tropical house. I wasn't really sold on Kygo's recent piano compositions and really just wanted him to return to his pan flute-heavy brand of electronic music, and it looks like he's heeded my prayers.
It's been nearly a week since Disclosure released Caracal, the follow-up to their 2013 debut album, Settle, and just before that they dropped their highly anticipated Lorde collaboration, "Magnets." They've now released an official music video for the track, and it's got everything you could ever ask for: sex, fire, and the future.
You might not expect the urban stylings of Alison Wonderland to mesh well with the contemporary house grooves of Duke Dumont, but the former artist's recent remix makes for a surprising stylistic synthesis. Dumont's recent nu-disco tinged "Ocean Drive" doesn't exactly scream trap music, but when put it through the Alison treatment, it makes for an infectiously high-energy take on the original.
So yeah, TomorrowWorld was pretty much the worst thing that happened in EDM all year (and that's saying a lot when you take into account that "Where Are Ü Now" came out at the beginning of the festival season. As despicable as the festival organizers' sheer negligence regarding transportation may have been, though, we've also caught word that what took place on the festival grounds themselves was nothing short of spectacular - rain, mud and ADA violations aside.
