We've got new music from GRiZ - well, sort of. We were especially excited to see the self-proclaimed "crunkstep" DJ/producer put out something new after he put out such an amazing new album, but it looks as though "Summer '97" may be a bit more of a throwback, at least as far as GRiZ himself is concerned.
Almost no other track defines what global superstar DJ Tiësto used to sound like quite the way "Adagio for Strings" does. The iconic arrangement - which is largely based on a piece of the same name by classical composer Samuel Barber - features one of the most memorable progressions in trance music history. As such, a choir cover of the track made for an ideal close to Sensation Amsterdam, bringing the audience full circle in a trip back in time.
It's no secret that Martin Garrix has taken part in some career-defining collaborations of late, but one artist in particular on his wish list makes for a bit of a head scratcher - at least in the nature of the collaboration desired. Garrix recently told Capital FM that he would like to produce a track with vocal samples from none other than international superstar DJ producer Calvin Harris.
It looks as though Martin Garrix's musical relationship with Russian progressive house duo Matisse & Sadko wasn't limited to last month's "Dragon," and quite frankly we don't mind one bit. Another joint effort between the three artists has arrived in the form of the invigorating "Break Through The Silence."
Perhaps no other nationally syndicated entertainment publication has covered the contemporary EDM explosion to the degree that Billboard has. Famous for its music charts as well as its in-depth analysis of industry trends, the magazine has succeeded in staying relevant even as the recording sales sector has turned on its head. As such, it seems an almost predictable next step for the company to organize its own music festival.
It's already been a couple months since Avicii and Martin Garrix officially released their collaboration "Waiting for Love," meaning that the progressive house anthem has had some time to bounce around the festival circuit and amass its fair share of unique edits and reworks. Avicii's camp has been sifting through them during this time, and have delivered a pack of official remixes that showcase some of the more celebrated versions of his original.
It's hard to have a real conversation about tropical house without the name Thomas Jack coming up, and he's broken a new music dry spell to cement his legacy even further. The Australian DJ/producer just released a brand new track called "Rivers," and it's as worthy a Summer anthem as any to mark the height of the festival season.
Dillon Francis has already given the EDM world plenty to be excited about in recent weeks, but a Jauz collaboration certainly sweetens the deal. Since his breakout last year, the latter artist has consistently delivered unique bass house numbers and memorable remixes, establishing himself as one of the hottest new names in dance music in the process. As such, it comes as no surprise that the two camps would converge on a track as monumental as Major Lazer's "Lean On" featuring Mø - and manage to make it even more grand in the process.
I guess I shouldn't be that surprised that a DVBBS track has so many stereotypical big room house elements all awkwardly mashed together, but this time it really seemed like they couldn't be serious. The duo teamed up with Danish DJ/producer Mike Hawkins on "Telephone," a track built around the off-hook recording played on landline telephones in North America, and I'm really struggling to write something about it without falling back on the obvious "phoning it in" joke.
It wasn't all that long ago that Disclosure teased at another Sam Smith collaboration, but now they've finally released the full details of the track. "Omen" will be the second single from the Surrey, England duo's forthcoming album, Caracal, and they co-wrote it with English songwriter Jimmy Napes.
