For fans of veteran designer Tim Schafer, fans of 3D platformers, and anyone who just enjoys a good adventure, today brings a reason to get excited. Psychonauts 2, the recently announced and long-awaited sequel to Schafer and developer Double Fine's 2005 sleeper hit, has just passed its main crowdfunding goal of $3,300,000 on the new gaming-centric service Fig. The game was previously unveiled at The Game Awards last month along with the campaign, and now has five more days to rack up any possible extra donations.
It hasn't been easy for fans of Sonic the Hedgehog for the past 15 years. Though still beloved for his classic sidescrolling trilogy on the Genesis, things have been rougher for Sega's mascot since his jump to both 3D and his first appearances on other consoles. For a while, it seemed that every Sonic game that came out was okay at best and a disaster at worst. The release of the more positively received Sonic Colors in 2010 and Sonic Generations in 2011 seemed to signal a possible return to form, but the disappointing Sonic Lost World and now-infamous Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric appear to have brought the series into the realm of constant failure again.

Now, GalaxyTrail has announced their next project in the form of Freedom Planet 2, which will look to enhance and refine the original's mechanics and presentation in numerous ways.
Developer Harmonix is close to unleashing their PlayStation 4 title Amplitude, based on a PlayStation 2 game from the company's earlier days. Since its successful Kickstarter campaign last year, the game has been pushed back nearly a year from its original March 2015 release, but rhythm game fans don't have to wait much longer, as Amplitude will be available for download on January 5.
It's nice to see King’s Quest: Chapter 2 – Rubble Without a Cause provide an interesting twist on adventure game mechanics, but a limited amount of mostly dreary environments leads to hours of repetition that, along with awkward mechanics, burns a lot of good will.
For Kingdom Hearts fans eager for more information on Kingdom Hearts III and the recently announced PlayStation 4 compilation Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Square Enix has just released what will likely be the last bit of media for the franchise in 2015, with a new trailer showcasing new features for both titles.
