The Matrix is held in great esteem by sci-fi fans. It was thought-provoking, inventive and unique, while still maintaining that overall blockbuster film feel. The original spawned a pair of sequels that are often derided as subpar, though they, too, still have their share of admirers.
Concern has been mounting that DC’s next cinematic outing, Joker wouldn’t be rated R come its release in October. After all, there are several recent examples of studios toning down source material to make it more appealing to a broad audience, even despite the wild success of Fox’s Logan and the Deadpool franchise.
The CW’s Arrow is about to head into its final season this fall. And while the show has certainly had some quality control issues throughout its run, it has, nonetheless, garnered a large and passionate fanbase. And given that the adventures of Green Arrow on the small screen were what kickstarted the so called Arrowverse, it’s no surprise that the creative team behind the series want to give it as good of a goodbye as possible.
Ever since Disney officially purchased Fox earlier this year and gained access to its huge library of IPs, fans have been wondering when the wayward Marvel franchises would be absorbed or rebooted in the MCU. Though Marvel TV has been going through its share of woes recently, what with the complete cancellation of the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they do have an impressive slate of programming for various outlets that they're currently working on. The most prolific is, perhaps, the Ghost Rider series, which is set to air on Hulu.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is still very much an unknown quantity. There's been so much controversy swirling around the project that no one has paid much attention to the fact that few, if any, specifics have been released, aside from casting.
Avengers: Endgame is likely going to go down as the biggest success story of 2019. The film had to juggle so many different aspects, from tying up the franchise in a quality fashion to setting up the next phase of the MCU. There was a lot on the shoulders of the movie but against all odds, it was a resounding success.
The future for Star Trek is in a very nebulous place, at least on the big screen. While the small screen iterations of the franchise are going strong, with Star Trek: Discovery being renewed for a third season and Star Trek: Picard being, perhaps, the most eagerly anticipated show to spawn from the Trek universe in years, if not decades, Paramount still doesn’t seem to know how bring Kirk and company back into cinemas.
