WGTC Radio #25: A Long-Expected Review of “The Hobbit”
Our long-expected episode reviewing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is finally here! The highly anticipated film arrived in theatres last Friday, set a box office record, and was roundly enjoyed by many! Thus, on today’s show, Sean Chapman and I sat down for one of our trademark in-depth discussions on the film, reviewing and analyzing every element of the movie in great detail. We are both quite positive on the film, even if we have some minor reservations, and I, for one, have warmed to the movie a bit more than when I wrote my initial review, thanks to a very enjoyable second viewing over the weekend.

The 10 Worst Films Of 2012
Earlier this week, I published my countdown of the Top 10 Films of 2012. As I said then, this has been a really great year for film, filled top to bottom with creative and memorable cinematic efforts. But that does not mean there weren’t plenty of stinkers in the mix as well, and I am sad to say I saw many if not most of them. Like its Top 10 counterpart, this Worst 10 Films of 2012 list was made from a competitive field; I hated more than enough movies this year to make a thoroughly bitter and resentful retrospective on the year in crap, one without room to spare for perennial Worst 10 favorites like Twilight.

The Top 10 Films Of 2012
From January all the way through to December, we have been spoiled with all sorts of cinematic riches. Many great established filmmakers delivered some of their best work to date – Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Judd Apatow, David O. Russell, Kathryn Bigelow, etc. – while many new or developing voices – like Steven Chbosky, Rian Johnson, Colin Trevorrow, Benh Zeitlin, and more – burst onto the scene with refreshing passion and vision. At the multiplex, blockbusters were generally smarter and bolder than the usual crop of Hollywood cookie-cutter fare, while local arthouses and independent cinemas were constantly filled with vibrant and intriguing efforts. If 2012 did not produce the sheer quantity of masterworks as 2010 or 2011, it possessed deeper and more consistent quality from beginning to end, and whether you were a critic or just a fellow film enthusiast, chances are you had a fair share of highly memorable experiences throughout the year.
