Game Of Thrones Is 2013’s Most Downloaded TV Show
Game of Thrones has taken the, ahem, throne (for the second year in a row) on the list of the year's most pirated television programs. According to TorrentFreak, 5.9 million people downloaded the final episode of its third season - slightly more than the 5.5 million viewers who tuned it to watch the aftermath in the wake of the much-hyped "Red Wedding" episode. This is not that surprising, considering that many fans of George R. R. Martin's fantasy series and the show they inspired likely cannot afford HBO.

Benedict Cumberbatch Gets Cracking As Alan Turing In First Photo From The Imitation Game
Benedict Cumberbatch has made a glorious career playing infinitely intelligent characters, whether they be a deductive detective on BBC's Sherlock, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate or manipulative villains in Star Trek Into Darkness and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Oh, and he also played Stephen Hawking and Vincent Van Gogh. So, when filmmakers were looking for an actor to convincingly portray the brilliant scientific genius Alan Turing for The Imitation Game, the choice was clear.

More than 600 movies received a theatrical release in 2013, which means that if you went to see a new movie every day this year, you still could not cover the whole cinematic spectrum. 2013 was, in this critic’s opinion, one of the best years for film in recent memory. Of the 80 or so films I saw this year, I enjoyed about two thirds of them. The titles that I can recommend heartily range from big-budget extravaganzas (among them, Gravity and Star Trek Into Darkness), as well as modest films that did not last long in theatres. If the diversity of the picks from early awards and critics prizes attest to anything, it is that the variety of quality films was vast this year.

Coming from first-time director Wally Pfister (the cinematographer for Inception and The Dark Knight), the film looks like a lower-budget Christopher Nolan thriller, brimming with intriguing questions about science and the dangers of new technology.

Morgan Freeman’s Godly Voice Narrates A Second Transcendence Teaser
Morgan Freeman, at age 76, seems to be busier than ever before. In 2013, he appeared in four films, all of which did quite well at the box office (Olympus Has Fallen, Oblivion, Now You See Me, Last Vegas), and is slated to appear in seven films (yes, seven!) in 2014, according to the IMDb. He even appears, mistakenly, on a billboard in India meant to memorialize Nelson Mandela (who he played in 2009's Invictus). So, it is not surprising that Freeman's deep, iconic voice is a selling point in the trailers to several of his upcoming films.

Wedding Crashers Director David Dobkin To Make A Hugh Hefner Biopic
A biographical film about Hugh Hefner promises lots of drama, high stakes and, of course, beautiful bunnies. So it is surprising that Hefner has not yet been the focus of a mainstream film. That looks like it may change shortly though as the long-gestating biopic about the founder of Playboy is closer than ever. Director David Dobkin, best known for Wedding Crashers, is now attached to the project, which also has the benefit of perhaps the best biopic screenwriter out there, Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, Rush).

X2 Writers May Return For X-Men: Apocalypse
It looks like director Bryan Singer is rounding up some of the usual suspects to pen X-Men: Apocalypse, the presumed sequel to May 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past. A photograph that the often-tweeting director posted on the social media site last night shows Singer with Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg as well as X2: X-Men United scribes Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris. Dougherty is the writer/director of holiday cult favourite Trick 'r Treat and its upcoming sequel, while Harris co-penned Superman Returns with Dougherty yet has not written a film since 2007.
