Better Call Saul Review: “Five-O” (Season 1, Episode 6)
“Five-O” will forever be remembered as a poignant, penetrating glimpse into the weary world of Breaking Bad’s (and now Better Call Saul's) most lovably laconic character. His conviction of how his son wouldn’t steep to the dirty lows Mike had dug himself into creates a powerful backstory that will be hard to forget. This was Banks’ finest hour, showing how Mike’s vacant stare was not just the result of being a lone wolf, but due to devastating familial heartbreak. This episode was a remarkable tragedy, tenderly emoted and terrifically performed.

Box Office Report: Chappie Has Crappy #1 Opening
After one of the biggest winters in box office history, audiences unexcited by new releases left the movie theatres empty on one of the poorest March weekends in recent memory. Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi flick Chappie led the weekend with an estimated $13.3 million – mediocre by the genre’s standards and a far haul from the director’s two previous hits.

Patricia Clarkson is one of those indispensable character actors that is too rarely delegated to leading lady status. However, she makes the most of a meandering script in a new film she headlines, October Gale, which also reunites her with Cairo Time director Ruba Nadda.

An omnibus film filled with moody New Yorkers in a frazzled state of mind, it demands good actors to fill in a lot of the screenplay’s gaps. The results are mixed, with only a couple of the lost, disillusioned millennial types resonating.

Broadchurch Season 2 Review
There didn’t need to be a second season of Broadchurch. The first series of episodes from 2013 didn’t just spawn a quick series of dreary, Europe-based crime show imitators involving youths in a small town, but crossed the pond to the point that Fox aired a blander American variation last fall. (It was titled Gracepoint, which I reviewed for ten inconsistent weeks.) Daniel Latimer’s murder seemed to be wrapped up pretty tightly by the end of season one, with nary a loose corner in sight.

Box Office Report: Focus Steals #1 Spot With Soft Opening
Will Smith and Margot Robbie's romantic caper film Focus easily topped the North American box office this weekend, although with a milder debut than expected. The heist flick opened with an estimated $19.1 million, which is solid for a film about con artists, but pretty tepid for Will Smith's standards. In the last 10 years, only one film with the Fresh Prince headlining has opened worse: 2008's Seven Pounds ($14.9 million).

Exclusive Interview With Mads Mikkelsen On The Salvation
One of Denmark’s greatest cultural exports, actor Mads Mikkelsen, has been dazzling (and frightening) North American audiences for more than a decade. He is best known domestically for his portryals of Le Chiffre in 2006’s Casino Royale and his chilling turn as Dr. Hannibal Lecter on the NBC drama, which is heading into its third season this spring. Foreign film lovers likely know his face from a variety of movies that have found modest success here, including three Danish Oscar nominees: After the Wedding, A Royal Affair and The Hunt.
