Having been benched for the back half of 2017, and subsequently sent to WB’s minor league affiliate following the release of Justice League, DC was given another chance at the plate in 2018, and as a result of an insanely strong San Diego Comic-Con panel, the comic book juggernaut is currently batting a thousand with a once disgruntled fanbase, and here’s why.
As DC and WB attempt to squeeze as many Joker movies out of the Clown Prince of Crime as humanly possible, take a stroll down memory lane courtesy of IGN, in association with Academy Award-winning Makeup Artist, John Caglione Jr., and relive the iconic performance given by Heath Ledger as the titular jester in Christopher Nolan’s venerable comic book film, The Dark Knight.
Aside from DC, arguably no one had a better San Diego Comic-Con than Michael Dougherty and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and even then, which franchise had a stronger showing at the “largest convention of its kind in the world” is still up for debate. Gojira and company put the entire world on notice when WB unleashed the electrifying first trailer for the third instalment into Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse – seen above – which was followed up with an equally jaw-dropping poster.
Although DC's doing their utmost to keep Aquaman under lock and key, star of James Wan’s upcoming subaquatic superhero feature, Jason Momoa, certainly didn’t do the comic book juggernaut any favors when he let the ending of the film slip earlier this week.
Having journeyed across the multiverse to direct a motion picture in the realm of Blade Runner, Denis Villeneuve, the man behind another piece of sci-fi brilliance, Arrival, has now been awarded creative control over science fiction staple Dune.
With Avengers: Infinity War scheduled to make the intergalactic journey to home video next month - digitally this coming Tuesday - Marvel and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment have been slowly releasing some of the bonus content that will be accompanying the fourth ever ticket booth titan to conquer the elusive $2 billion plateau onto home video.
Well, San Diego Comic-Con 2018 came and went, and unfortunately, the Snyder cut was nowhere to be seen, nor was Zack Snyder, for that matter. DC and WB did manage to make up for the lack of a Justice League director’s cut, though, what with the first teaser for Shazam!, some unpolished Wonder Woman 1984 footage, and the first trailer for Aquaman all arriving simultaneously. That said, one can’t help but feel a little let-down, especially after all the hoopla regarding an alternate version of the much-maligned supergroup movie really had us going, but I digress.
On the closing day of San Diego Comic-Con, a verified Twitter account associated with the film alluded to the fact that the new Venom footage shown within Hall H last Friday - which felt more like a sizzle reel than a teaser - would be arriving sometime this week. Unfortunately, as heard through Trailer Track, this is not the case.
Given the cataclysmic finale of Avengers: Infinity War, there’s many a question that the currently reeling MCU fanbase would love the Powers That Be to answer. I can almost guarantee, however, how the post-credits shawarma sequence from The Avengers came to be, isn’t one of them. Or, at the very least, it would be near the bottom of the list.
Dependent on which side of the fence you may fall, James Gunn, the man behind the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, was either justifiably terminated, or unnecessarily fired, by The Walt Disney Company late last week. For those of you who don’t know, the House of Mouse decided to let Gunn go after disturbing social media comments made in 2011 resurfaced.
