Yes, we all love zombies. We all know that they are a big business and we also know that much of the blame for the current form of zombies rests on the shoulders of horror master George Romero and his brilliant, low-budget 1968 flick Night of the Living Dead. Now, in the grand cinematic tradition of beating even dead things to death with a stick, there is going to be a Night of the Living Dead prequel called Origins and it's going to start shooting in 2015.
Well, it's either a very exciting or very frightening time to be a Ghostbusters fan. On the one hand, we now have a pretty solid cast list for the all-female Ghostbusters reboot. On the other hand...well, the phrase "a Ghostbusters reboot" pretty much says it all. But as this film is definitely happening now, it's time to start digging into this cast list and finding out who (or what) everyone is playing.
This summer marks the release of a few tentpole films, each vying for a space at the top. The biggest is most certainly Avengers: Age of Ultron, but there's also Jurassic World, Ant-Man, and Terminator: Genisys to contend - not to mention all the animated films in the offing. Now we can add yet another franchise installment to our ever-growing list of summer releases, as Mission: Impossible 5 has secured a July 31 release date.
Remember when Adam Sandler was funny? Think hard; I know it was a long time ago. OK, so he was never a comedic genius at the level of the Marx Brothers or George Burns, but at least you could get a chuckle or two out of his films. Now he's just become the Razzies' favorite actor, and it appears that that trend is not going to shift any time soon. After inking a four-picture deal with Netflix last fall, Sandler has finally announced what his first Netflix film will be: a western spoof called Ridiculous 6
It might be a stretch to call the Bridget Jones films a beloved franchise. Certainly the first film was both a major hit of 2001, and remains an enjoyable little romcom today, but its sequel in 2004 was not quite so beloved, relying mostly on tired re-hashes of successful scenes in the earlier film. The idea of a third film has been bandied around before, especially since the release of Helen Fielding's addition sequel Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. But are we any closer to seeing a Bridget Jones 3, and do we really want to?
It has been a long and twisty road to principal photography on The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino's latest foray into the western genre. First Gawker leaked the script, resulting in the filing of a lawsuit and Tarantino's proclamation that he did not intend to make the film. What followed was a single public reading of the script, the lawsuit being dropped, and, finally, Tarantino's announcement that he would make the movie after all. Now the day is finally here, as The Weinstein Company announces that Tarantino has begun filming on The Hateful Eight.
I know that most of you have seen Napoleon Dynamite. I am equally certain that most of you can quote one, if not more, lines from that aforementioned film of awkward hilarity. But you might not be aware of what Jared and Jerusha Hess have done since they unleashed Napoleon and his weird clique on an unsuspecting world. Lionsgate is hoping that you will still have some passion left for their work, though, as they picked up the Hess' new film Don Verdean very quickly at Sundance.
I know that you were waiting with bated breath to find out who would play Ronald Reagan in the upcoming (and cleverly titled) Reagan, so I shall keep you in suspense no longer. Ronald Reagan will be played by...David Henrie!
Despite some excellent movies coming out in the past year, we've been somewhat scant on the true feel-good, underdog stories of a troubled person who makes good. That is all about to change, however, with the upcoming release of Boychoir, which will hit theatres this March.
