Yesterday, James Gunn broke the news that he'd be returning to write and direct a third film in the mega-popular Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. This was followed earlier today by the first Twitter reactions to the soon-to-be-released Vol. 2, which received (almost) universal acclaim from critics. As it turns out, that's a very good thing for Marvel because it sounds like Gunn and his series of space-adventures are going to play a huge part in shaping the MCU going forward.
The season 7 finale of AMC's The Walking Dead did give us a showdown (or sorts) between Rick and his allies and Negan's band of Saviors, but it really didn't bring us the "All-Out War" promised by both an early synopsis and Robert Kirkman's source material. Be that as it may, nobody can deny that it was an eventful season when it came to losing some main characters, as Glenn and Abraham bought it in the premiere, and
Star Wars Celebration has come and gone for another year, but the weekend was packed full of huge surprises that should keep fans of that galaxy far, far away talking for quite a while. The biggest reveal was obviously the first teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but there were also plenty of developments relating to Dave Filoni's excellent Disney XD animated series, Star Wars Rebels.
If you were thinking that The Fast and the Furious franchise was close to running out of gas, think again. The latest instalment in the juggernaut series, The Fate of the Furious, just had a massive weekend, racing to $532.5 million to give it the biggest worldwide box office opening of all-time. That puts it past Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($529 million), with $100.2 million coming in from domestic showings and over 80% arriving from international markets.
During season 1 of HBO's Westworld, we were introduced to a whole bunch of fascinating characters. In fact, almost everyone on the show was given a deeply layered and fleshed out arc, making for some of the most exciting television we've seen in some time. That being said, of all the colorful characters on the network's hit sci-fi series, perhaps none was more interesting to follow than Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores.
Ever since the tragic passing of Carrie Fisher, there's been much debate over how Lucasfilm should proceed with the rest of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. After appearing in The Force Awakens, the actress will once again show up on the silver screen in The Last Jedi, and has a fairly large role in it from what we understand. That much has been confirmed. And because she had already shot all of her scenes for Rian Johnson's movie before she died, no changes or alternations were necessary.
Hot off the success of the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, which is now sitting at $1 billion at the worldwide box office, Bill Condon is in talks with Universal to direct their remake of The Bride of Frankenstein. The project is part of the studio's new cinematic universe, one which features all of their classic monsters and kicks off shortly with the release of The Mummy. From there, we'll also be getting The Invisible Man, Van Helsing, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and many more.
In case you didn't know - and really, how could you not? - Star Wars Celebration kicked off today in Orlando, and while nothing too noteworthy came out of the convention as far as news goes, there was still a lot of excitement to be found. Among many other things, Day 1 brought with it a huge panel in honor of the franchise's 40th anniversary, which featured numerous stars from the various films as well as some of the key figures in the Star Wars family.
The strange ballad of Manu Bennett and his on-again-off-again reprisal of the villainous Deathstroke in Arrow concludes (at least, we hope so) with what appears to be official confirmation that the Kiwi actor will indeed return as Slade Wilson for the upcoming season 5 finale of the CW series.
Can you feel it? The excitement in the air? It's palpable, to be sure. Star Wars fans around the world are giddy with anticipation right about now as they gear up for Celebration Orlando this week, where Disney and Lucasfilm will tease us with everything coming down the pipeline from that galaxy far, far away. And while all eyes will be fixed firmly on the very first trailer for Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there's another property that's also going to be taking up a fair share of the spotlight.
