With Kong: Skull Island getting ready to slam into theaters and take a giant step forward in Warner Bros.' MonsterVerse, we're starting to learn more and more about the next film in the shared universe: Godzilla: King of Monsters.
Up until now, 20th Century Fox has been keeping quiet on their plans for the future of the X-Men franchise. Rumors have been hitting the web at a furious rate, all pointing to X-Men: Supernova being the next instalment, but so far, the studio hasn't said a word. That doesn't change today, unfortunately, but Collider has an interesting report which says that producer Simon Kinberg, who runs the show when it comes to the mutant franchise, might get behind the camera to direct the upcoming outing, which is set to shoot this spring.
With HBO's Game of Thrones coming to a close very soon, its cast is starting to look ahead to the future and already we've seen many of them start to make the transition over to other projects, as expected. Earlier today, we got word of Iwan Rheon, who plays Ramsay Bolton on the hit fantasy series, signing on for Marvel's Inhumans and now, his co-star Alfie Allen has also found himself with a new role, as the actor's been picked up by Shane Black's The Predator.
There was a lot to like about Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It wasn't perfect, and not quite as good as The Force Awakens, but it was an admirable effort from all involved and has us very excited to see the next Anthology film from Disney. That would be the Han Solo spinoff, which is currently in development, and while it may be a while before we get to see anything substantial from it, the Rogue One goodies just keep on coming in the meantime.
When the embargo lifted this past Friday and the first batch of reviews for James Mangold's Logan hit, a rumor that 20th Century Fox was planning on adding a post-credits stinger to the theatrical cut of the film came with them. The version that screened for press definitely didn't feature one (trust me, I waited), but then we heard that an extra few minutes had been added which in turn led to the speculation that the studio had decided to give those that caught Logan in theaters a little extra something. Now, Collider has confirmed that this is indeed the case.
DC Comics' God of War, Ares, has been rumored to be the villain of the Wonder Woman movie since before director Patty Jenkins even began shooting, and thanks to a recent magazine article and some photos of a few toys, it would now finally seem to be confirmed. Though we know Ares will appear, we haven't really given much thought to the actor that would be stepping into the role, as most fans had assumed the character would be a fully CG creation. However, some new information has now revealed that a familiar face will indeed bring life to the powerful baddie.
It's hard to believe, but we're now only a few months away from James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The loveable, ragtag crew of space-faring heroes will soon grace our screens again and excitement is, understandably, quite high. After all, with the first film, Marvel was able to take a bunch of C, maybe even D-list characters and turn them into some of the most popular individuals in their sprawling cinematic universe. Now, with the sequel just around the corner, it looks like the gang's adventures are going to be even bigger and better than what came before.
When it comes to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it seems that you can't go more than a day or two without a new rumor hitting the web. That's especially true in recent weeks, as we inch closer to not only the film's release, but also its first trailer, which will be shown at Star Wars Celebration in April. Given that we've seen next to nothing from the Rian Johnson-helmed movie yet, the upcoming trailer is a massive deal and already, speculation in regards to what we may get from it has been kicked into overdrive.
While J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and even Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to some extent, fell victim to numerous leaks during production, Disney tightened up security tremendously for Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi and even though the film is now only about 10 months away, we still know next to nothing about it. Plot details are scarce and most of the roles haven't even been revealed yet.
When M. Night Shyamalan's Split arrived in theaters, it's fair to say that audiences probably didn't expect a whole lot from it. Fans of the director's early work were in for quite a surprise though when it was revealed that the film actually took place in the same cinematic universe as Unbreakable, with Bruce Willis' David Dunn even showing up near the end to tie it all together. With the origin story for James McAvoy's villain now out of the way, it's time to start looking ahead to what comes next, and according to the director himself, that'll be Unbreakable 2 (or Split 2 - a title hasn't been chosen yet).
