This year was a particularly weak one, professionally speaking, for Michael Fassbender. While I'll defend X-Men: Apocalypse more than most, it certainly didn't live up to expectations. The same could more or less be said for The Light Between Oceans as well, and let's not even delve into Assassin's Creed. That wound is still healing, if it even made an impact at all.
With the release of T2: Trainspotting less than a month away now - on the other side of the pond, at least - the hugely anticipated sequel is moving along steadily with its promotional campaign, which continues today with some slick new Empire Magazine covers.
The set-up for Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is pretty simple, as it usually is with Jerry Seinfeld. The actor asks a fellow comedian to join him on a ride around town, during which they talk, grab some coffee, talk again, walk/ride/sit some more, talk some more, and so on and so forth. It's not a complicated premise, but it works well for Crackle, and it's earned the web-series nine whole seasons(!) since its 2012 premiere, which is advertised in the new trailer above.
Not much is known about The Shape of Water, the newest film from Guillermo del Toro. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but from what we've heard it's an other-worldly adventure, one that finds Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer and Doug Jones (duh) set against the backdrop of the Cold War. Today, we've learned one more small detail about the project: its score will be composed by Alexandre Desplat.
Among the most divisive aspects of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the use of a CGI-created Grand Moff Tarkin, made in the likeness of Peter Cushing, an actor who died in 1994. Some thought it was brilliantly handled, while others considered it to be a cheap, unnecessary addition. Cheap morally, that is. It definitely cost a lot to bring into actualization, and based on recent reports, we now know that Lucasfilm actually had backup plans if things didn't work out.
Poor Monster Trucks. It hasn't been an easy road for Paramount's children-friendly blockbuster. Delayed multiple times, largely forgotten or ignored by the general public, dumped into an unflattering January 2017 release date and given a premature $115 million write-off from its own studio, it's as if nobody loves this misguided mess of a film, including the critics.
Star Wars is hotter than ever right now, yet you rarely hear about George Lucas these days. Since signing away his rights a few years back, the director has kept a low profile of late, minus the occasional news headline every now and again, but he's set to make a comeback very shortly — if not quite as himself. That's because Matt Angel will play a young, soon-to-be notorious version of the film legend in a new episode of The CW's Legends of Tomorrow.
The promotional team behind Fox's Logan had some fun with the visual presentation of their newest sequel, often releasing beautiful black-and-white stills promoting the moody, somber new superhero film. They came so consistently and frequently that some thought the newest X-Men movie might, in fact, be sans color, but the excellent, vibrant first trailer put those rumors to rest. With that, we've got one of our first colorful stills released today, and not only is it just as beautiful as the colorless ones, it promises a new trailer too.
Aquaman will serve as both Patrick Wilson's third superhero movie (if you count a voice cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) and his fifth film with director James Wan, all within this past decade. While we still don't have too many details on his role in the upcoming flick, the actor has revealed that he thinks now is the perfect time to make an Aquaman movie.
It was nearly two years ago when the last episode of BBC America's Broadchurch aired in February 2015. While we don't know exactly when the acclaimed series will return, we do know that it's coming next year. That's because the British crime drama has released a slight 10-second teaser today promising its 2017 season 3 debut.
