The Newsroom Series Premiere Review: “We Just Decided To” (Season 1, Episode 1)
Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe winning writer Aaron Sorkin has been away from the small screen for nearly 5 years and his absence has somewhat been felt. He truly cemented his talent as a terrific TV writer after spending 4 years as show runner/chief writer on The West Wing which won numerous awards and critical acclaim. After that he came a cropper with the underrated Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (which only lasted one season) and then he turned his eyes towards film, finding massive success with The Social Network, which did a lot to re-establish him as an important voice in the world of visual media. Now, after winning every writing award possible for the aforementioned film, he's back in the world of TV with The Newsroom.

Charlie Sheen Is The President Of The United States
That's right, Robert Rodriguez has cast the Charlie Sheen as the 'leader of the free world' in his Machete sequel Machete Kills. Rodriguez took to Twitter yesterday to announce this 'excellent' news to all of his followers. He seems to assembling a proper washed up cast, with Mel Gibson also having a major role as the film's villain. Problem is, I can't see Rodriguez reviving their careers in the same way his colleague and friend Quentin Tarantino did with the likes of John Travolta, Robert Forster and David Carradine, but you never know.

New Red Band Clip For Oliver Stone’s Savages
For most of the big Oliver Stone fans out there, you will have noticed that in recent years his intensity has been toned down. Earlier on in his career Stone made films like JFK, Platoon and Natural Born Killers, which were works that were divisive and angry, they had all the subtlety of a sledgehammer and all the better for that. Stone movies used to knock the wind out of you.

First Trailer Released For Dredd
One remake no one ever expected to happen was a remake of Judge Dredd, a mid 90's action vehicle, which starred Sylvester Stallone marching around a gigantic city, with a red bucket on his head shouting: "I am the law" at young criminals before shooting them. It was bad. And it did hideous business. But there's always the chance for reinvention and with Alex Garland (28 Days Later) behind the script, a remake could produce something interesting. So does the sparkly new trailer, released today, suggest a decent reinvention of the character?

Mad Men Season 5 Is The Highest Rated Of The Series
The figures are in from Sunday night revealing that the Mad Men Season 5 finale, "The Phantom", is the highest rated finale of the series. The season's closer got around 2.7 million views on Sunday night, not accounting for repeat viewings or online viewers. This boost in viewings towards the end pushes up the season average viewers to 2.6 million which means that Season 5 is the most watched of Mad Men's entire run.

New Images From The Great Gatsby
There is no doubt that the trailer for The Great Gatsby was a divisive bit of marketing, I personally thought it looked pretty ropey and others were more convinced that the style director Baz Luhrmann seems to be going for captures the excesses of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel. However, the more I see of the images, the more I'm beginning to be convinced.
