‘Barbie’ merch finds Simu Liu trapped in his own multiverse of madness

What would that be like to walk into a store and look at your own face on the shelf?

The multiverse has exploded into a million possibilities, which has resulted in film characters bumping into themselves from time to time. What would that be like in real life to walk into a store like Simu Liu did and see more than one duplication of himself for sale at Toys R Us?

Liu began his acting career over a decade ago when he was cast as a desk officer in the action-packed television series Nikita. Since then, he’s enjoyed quite a few roles including Lah Zhima in 2021’s Star Wars: Vision, as well as the title role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which promises to have a sequel. He also will reprise his role as Shang-Chi in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars which is slated for release in 2027.

On July 21, 2023, he becomes Ken #2 in the upcoming Barbie with Margot Robbie playing Barbie and Ryan Gosling playing Ken. How a second Ken fits into that equation is yet to be determined, but Simu Liu is the guy and that would mean he’s not only an action figure but he’s also a well-groomed specimen of a human being who is into shoes, fashion, hairstyles, and pedicures.

As a part of the Barbie universe, his character had to be made into a doll. That’s the scene Simu Liu walked into when he found himself in the Barbie Doll section at his local Toys R Us. He was quick to point out that he likely existed in more than one reality within the store.

Imagine seeing the martial arts master Shang-Chi on the wall dressed in yellow shorts and a matching shirt like he’s on vacation, getting ready to play volleyball on the beach.

Liu’s fans are thrilled to see his evolution from minor roles to being a marquee name for major productions.

Buy one of Ken #2 and on the next aisle over, there is a Shang-Chi. You can have them fight as action figures do or you can have them make out. What part would G.I. Joe play in this scenario?

If the Barbie trailers are giving viewers an honest look, the movie is going to be great. It’s a hit from the get go, and Simu Liu is already enjoying the success with his merch at Toys R Us.
