Actor Ben Savage has officially registered to run for congress in California. According to Federal Election Commission documents, the Boy Meets World star will be seeking the Democratic nomination for California’s 30th District, a seat currently held by Democrat Adam Schiff.

The district — which covers the western San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County and the eastern Simi Hills of Ventura County — represents a population of more than 747,000 people. Schiff won the general election on Nov. 8, 2022, and assumed office on Jan. 3, 2023, for a two-year term, which would give Savage nearly two years to campaign if he chooses to officially announce his candidacy.

The actor, who famously played Cory Matthews in the hit TV series Boy Meets World from 1993-2000, reprised his role from 2014-2017 for a series centered on his on-screen daughter in Girl Meets World. He has starred in 39 movies and TV shows since he began acting in 1989.

In 2022, Savage had an unsuccessful bid for West Hollywood City Council, in which he focused on issues in the community, stating that while he is not a politician, he wanted to make a difference in his community. If he chooses to run, it is presumed Savage will focus on the same issues, which he addressed in a statement on his campaign website.

“Our community is facing serious challenges around public safety, struggling businesses, the cost of housing, and homelessness. We need new leaders with a fresh perspective who are ready to begin tackling these issues.”

Savage graduated from Stanford University in 2004 with a degree in Political Science. During his studies, he interned with former Senator Arlen Specter from Pennsylvania.
