‘Don’t put that man in front of me again’: King Charles may be ready to forgive Harry but patience for his own staff wears thin

Many might think King Charles to be a forgiving soul, his approach to the fallout between him and Prince Harry suggests as such. However, his rumored behavior behind palace doors doesn’t seem to reflect this image at all. In fact, his recent actions have reportedly led to a mass exodus of gardening staff whose low morale has been attributed to the King’s demands and harsh words to certain employees.

Nobody’s perfect and King Charles is no exception. This week it was reported that 11 out of the 12 gardeners who were employed at Highgrove House had left the team. According to The Sunday Times at least one staffer also filed a complaint in which they claimed that they were under-resourced and frequently struggled to fulfil the King’s requests as “There is little management of HMTK [His Majesty the King’s] expectations.”

King Charles is a stern boss

Most would expect a job working for the monarchy to be relatively cushy and laid back. But it’s not so, at least not for the gardeners at Highgrove. Members of staff also allegedly developed physical injuries from working on the grounds and the team also suffered from low moral. This sounds more like something you’d hear about Meghan Markle, but alas this time it’s not the Sussexes. On top of that workers were also apparently paid minimum wage.

In one moment that sounds rather out of character for the King, a member of staff revealed their lack of knowledge regarding a specific flower which prompted Charles to allegedly say “Don’t put that man in front of me again.” Very harsh indeed, especially considering how difficult the working environment seemed already, this kind of alleged comment no doubt only served to further lower the morale of the workers who were struggling to keep up as it was.

The King’s Foundation responds

When reached out to by Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for the King’s Foundation didn’t outright refute the claims made by ex-staffers but did point out that staff turnover is “well below” the national average.

“At The King’s Foundation, we take staff welfare extremely seriously and strive to be an exemplary employer,” the spokesperson told the outlet. “We are proud to regularly report very high satisfaction rates in our annual staff survey. Our staff turnover is well below the national average, as is the number of formal grievances raised.”

If the allegations from these supposed ex-staffers are true then it would suggest Charles is a lot less kind hearted than he appears to be in public. While he’s willing to forgive his son, Prince Harry, these allegations make him sound almost elitist in his approach towards the regular people who work for him.

Of course, it’s important to remember that these are just rumors. However, what is a fact that can’t be refuted is the mass staff exodus. It seems likely that working as a royal gardener might not be as desirable a job as it would seem.
