Eyebrows of doubt inevitably raised after MrBeast claims he turned down a trip on the Titan submersible

The skeptics are out in force.

As we’ve seen over the last few days, the internet hasn’t lost its habit for piggybacking on a tragedy, with the Titan submersible leading to a questionable outpouring of jokes, memes, and altogether dark humor.

James Cameron even came under a little fire for his knowledgeable comments on the matter that came off a touch on the self-aggrandizing side, but he’s been down to the wreckage of the Titanic over 30 times and dived to some of the deepest parts of the ocean in vessels he helped design himself, so it was all coming from a place of expertise.

However, YouTuber MrBeast hopping onto the discourse and claiming that he’d been invited on the ill-fated voyage only to turn it down and inadvertently save his own life on the process has immediately – and entirely justifiably given that the whole contextual picture has yet to be painted – seen social media raise a collective eyebrow of suspicion at somebody who regularly bats away accusations they’re a clout chaser anyway.

Somebody saying they were almost part of a harrowing incident is nothing new, and while there’s every chance MrBeast is in fact telling the truth and did say no to OceanGate’s request to join the crew, the way the internet works is that there’s a lot of people out there who won’t believe him unless he provides ironclad and irrefutable evidence.

It’s a delicate situation regardless of where the truth lies, but it hasn’t done anything to stop the questionable and bad faith takes from coming thicker and faster than ever before.
