Friend reveals he spoke to Rob Reiner mere hours before his murder, shares he had ‘thoughts for the future’

He spoke to him for over an hour.

Hollywood is still reeling from the shocking death of famed director Rob Reiner as LA police investigate the apparent homicide. In the aftermath of his death, friends of the director shared their condolences with one particularly close friend, Eric Idle, claiming he spoke to him mere hours before his apparent murder.

Reiner and his wife, Michele, were discovered after the Los Angeles Fire Department were called to the property to provide urgent medical aid. The director, known for popular movies such as Spinal Tap and When Harry Met Sally, was 78 at the time of his death, Michele was 68. The couple’s son, Nick Reiner, is currently in custody and being questioned by authorities.

“Rob Reiner was a lovely man”

Tributes from those who knew him began pouring in last night and this morning as colleagues and friends processed his sudden passing. Actor and comedian, Eric Idle revealed that he had spoken with Reiner just before he passed away. “I always enjoyed his company,” wrote Idle.

The pair first met in 1975, and were clearly close. He claimed that the director had been telling all about an upcoming film and that he had “thoughts for the future.”

Evidently Reiner had no idea he and his wife’s lives were in imminent danger which only makes their deaths that much more shocking. It also makes it a lot more sad, knowing that Reiner and his wife had so much to look forward to in their future and now it is all lost. Idle finishes his statement by writing that he shall miss his friend who was “A clever, talented and very thoughtful man.”

Other tributes

Others have shared similar sentiments online. Hollywood A-listers like Christopher Guest and his wife Jamie Lee Curtis shared a joint statement in which they said they were “numb and sad and shocked,” by the sudden passing of their “dear friends Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner,” as per The Guardian.

Kathy Bates, who starred in Reiner’s 1990 Stephen King adaptation, Misery, claimed that he had “changed the course” of her life.

Even Donald Trump addressed the legendary director’s death, although his statement was as self-centred and tone deaf as usual, Reiner had been an outspoken supporter of Biden so of course, Trump couldn’t resist. Other politicians including Barack Obama, shared tributes which were much more appropriate and heartfelt.

So far the motivation behind the alleged murder and further details about how Reiner and his wife died have yet to be released but as previously mentioned, Reiner’s son is currently being held in custody on $4 million bond.
