News of Jerry Springer‘s tragic death sent shockwaves worldwide, leaving many fans and admirers of the legendary television host in disbelief.
As previously reported, Springer passed away on April 27 in his Chicago home at the age of 79. The star’s death was confirmed in a public statement released by Springer’s longtime friend and spokesperson, Jene Galvin.
In the statement, Galvin mourned the loss of Springer and disclosed that his bigger-than-life personality and connection with others were reasons why the star was widely popular among many. They said while also mentioning how much it hurts to no longer have Springer around,
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word. He’s irreplaceable, and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart, and humor will live on.”
What caused Jerry Springer’s death?
Additionally, that same day, TMZ reported that a family spokesperson, whose name wasn’t identified, revealed that Springer’s cause of death was due to a “brief illness.”
An insider told the publication that at the time of Springer’s passing, he was battling pancreatic cancer. It was also revealed that the father of one was diagnosed with the disease “a few months ago.” Despite Springer’s diagnosis, he continued to work as a host for a Cincinnati radio station until last month, when the cancer worsened. According to TMZ, Springer’s health continued to deteriorate during the final week of his life.
Springer rose to fame in the 1990s with his hit yet controversial self-titled series, The Jerry Springer Show. The talk show debuted in 1991 and aired for 27 seasons before being canceled in 2018. Following the cancelation, Springer would host Judge Jerry for three seasons from 2019 to 2022. In addition to his success in journalism, Springer was Cincinnati’s former mayor and a campaign advisor for the late Robert Kennedy.
Springer is survived by his ex-wife Micki Velton, his daughter Katie Springer, a grandson, his sister Evelyn Springer, and many close family, friends, and legions of supporters.
