If Twitter has a fourth wall, then Mark Hamill just broke right through it

He's always there when we need him.

Mark Hamill is maintaining his trend of being easily the most entertaining thing on Twitter with perhaps his most oddball tweet yet.

The beloved Star Wars titan has been making a habit of tearing down many of Twitter’s more unpopular changes, even as he similarly tears down negative players who use the site as a sounding board. In the moments between his online vigil, the 71-year-old icon somehow also finds time to be a grade-A goofball, and — with his latest tweet, at least — break the real-life fourth wall on Twitter, if such a thing even exists.

Hamill started his goofy online spiral with a simple, silly tweet proclaiming nothing but “tweet.” A straightforward tweet, tweeting about tweeting, as it were.

This “tweet” tweet then got a retweet from Twitter user @SLegend55, who delivered a “quote tweet” of Hamill’s “tweet tweet,” brilliantly carrying the joke into yet another Twitter dimension.

But Hamill, our king, refuses to be outdone. He seized the opportunity to spiral even further into Twitter’s mirror dimension with a quote tweet of the quote tweet, making his response a “retweet of your quote tweet of my tweet tweet.”

Honestly, I’m struggling to keep up at this point. What year is it? Is Hamill president yet? How long ago did the timeline collapse in on itself, all due to the vortex created by Hamill’s goofy “tweet” tweet?

Considering how far Twitter has fallen in recent months, and with distracting protests and shutdown subreddits dominating most people’s attention, Hamill’s oddball tweet is exactly what this week needed. Does it contribute anything of worth to the national conversation? Of course not. But is it nonetheless charming, hilarious, and utterly Hamill? Why yes, yes it is.
