Former child actor Haley Joel Osment is under heavy criticism after being arrested on April 8, 2025, in Mammoth Lakes, California. The 37-year-old actor was detained at a ski resort for being drunk in public and having illegal drugs. Police body camera video made public shows a troubling scene where Osment shouts insults and uses hateful language against Jewish people while speaking to the officers.
Since then, he has apologized several times, saying he deeply regrets what he did. The body camera footage obtained by The Post shows Osment acting strangely, yelling that he was being attacked and kidnapped. He would not listen to the officers, spoke aggressively, and repeatedly used harsh language.
In the video, he is clearly heard using antisemitic slurs and calling one officer a “Nazi.” During a search, police also found what they believe to be cocaine hidden inside a folded twenty-dollar bill.
Haley Joel Osment apologized for antisemitic slurs
In a statement to The Post, Osments said, “But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage. I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”
He said he had been drinking heavily and blacked out, so he does not remember using such hurtful words. He also said his actions were partly due to the emotional stress he has been under lately. In January, his home was destroyed in the Altadena wildfire, and he has been struggling to get insurance to cover his losses, which has taken a toll on his mental health.

Osment’s troubles are not new. He has had legal problems before related to alcohol. When he was 18 in 2006, he was arrested for drunk driving after a car crash. In 2018, he was involved in a loud public argument at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, though the details were never shared. These past incidents, along with his recent arrest, have raised concerns about his well-being and possible ongoing issues with drugs and alcohol.
The Mono County District Attorney’s office has charged Osment with having cocaine and causing a public disturbance, both minor crimes. His court hearing is set for June 7, 2025. The charges are made more serious by the hateful language he used during his arrest, which has led to widespread criticism.
This situation also hurts Osment’s career and reputation. He is still well-known for his early roles in movies like The Sixth Sense and Pay It Forward, but this incident could overshadow his past success.
