Is everyone else shocked MatPat from Game Theory is producing a Broadway show or is that just me?

Didn't expect this in my 2023 bingo cards.

When I first watched MatPat‘s Game Theory YouTube channel in 2014, my impression of him was a “video game theorist who quit the life of the theater.” This was pretty evident in his “Draw My Life” video in which he shared his previous passion for performing on stage. So you could imagine the shock that I, and many people felt when we just found out now that this internet theory man produced a Broadway show in 2023? Didn’t expect that in my mid-year bingo cards.

Arthur McDaniel, also known as the GamerFromMars, shared a photo of him and MatPat, with the caption “Went to a preview of the new @MatPatGT produced Broadway show, Grey House.” Apparently, MatPat produced a Broadway show without anyone knowing. This went down in between selling the Theorist company that he and his wife own, running four main YouTube channels, and taking care of his family.

And knowing how big this man is on the internet, with over 17 million subscribers on The Game Theorist channel alone, I’m surprised that nobody leaked this information.

To validate this information, photos of the show’s playbook were shared online, revealing both his and Stephanie’s name as the Grey House‘s co-producers. How did no one find out about this until today? Was any of this revealed in GT Live? Twitter? Because this has to be a better-kept secret than whatever Marvel is working on behind closed doors right now.

Per the play’s official website, Grey House is a horror show about a couple who sought shelter in an isolated cabin. Their host showed eagerness to make their guest feels right at home, but that’s just part of what made this stay feel all too suspicious. Reddit user @GooGooGajoob67 shared their experience watching the show on r/Broadway and r/GameTheorist, and claimed that the show could be compared to an A24 horror flick in the way that it has a lot of “spooky vibes.”

Grey House is pretty new and not many news outlets have given their reviews. The New York Times says the show made its debut in Chicago before making its way to Broadway. Based on what’s said about the show on social media, Grey House has received a great reception from attendees, who claimed that the show “scared them out of their seats.”

Grey House stars Tony Award winner Laurie Metcalf, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law‘s Tatiana Maslany, and House of Cards’ Paul Sparks, and is directed by American Horror Story: NYC‘s Joe Mantello. Tickets for the show are now available on the website and it runs for 100 minutes with no intermission.
