‘It looks like it’s very feminist and cool’: Amy Schumer shares excitement over ‘Barbie’ despite originally dropping out of the movie

The Dreamhouse wasn't in the cards.

Long before Australian actress Margot Robbie was slated to take a dip in the pool of the Dreamhouse in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, American comedian Amy Schumer was originally set to star in the larger-than-life cinematic venture. As it happens, “creative differences” forced Schumer out of the upcoming project, but that doesn’t mean that she isn’t eyeing the movie as a thrilling treat to be enjoyed by all — but most of all, by feminists.

While chatting with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, the 42-year-old comedy star expressed that filmmakers weren’t interested in making the movie in the same way that she was. In the end, Schumer bounced out of the project, and the role of Barbie eventually went to Robbie. But Schumer definitely doesn’t hold any sour grapes towards the film, sharing that the movie “looks very feminist and cool” and that she will definitely be purchasing tickets to watch the fun-filled flick.

Of course, it goes without saying that the notable comedian/actress has enjoyed a fine career all without portraying the titular Barbie. But it wouldn’t be Schumer being Schumer without her joking that she wasn’t “thin enough” to play the character. Regardless, if Schumer is happy and willing to watch the movie despite initially dropping out, then it’s safe to say that we’ll all enjoy it, too.

For those interested, Barbie is set to release in theaters on July 21 — the exact same day as Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated Oppenheimer.
