Famed horror author and amateur fact checker Stephen King has castigated Senator Ted Cruz for his poor coverage of the Trump indictments. King took to Twitter to call out Cruz’s incorrect take on the situation.

Cruz was busy plugging his podcast (apparently, sitting Senators have enough free time to work on those) on Twitter and spoke out against the indictments currently being handed down to Donald Trump. The reality-star-cum-politician is currently facing 37 charges for alleged impropriety while in office. Needless to say, his case has become a cause célèbre amongst conservative politicians.

In the tweet, Cruz attempts to shift the narrative: he claims that Trump’s guilt or innocence is irrelevant, saying that the “politicization” of the indictments is what should be worrying Americans. He then went on to claim that President Joe Biden committed the same alleged crimes.

Many were quick to call out Cruz’s take, including King, who’s had no sympathy for Trump. King’s tweet refuted Cruz with facts and a simple, “It wasn’t the same thing, and you know it.” He also poked fun at the Senator’s vacation to Mexico while his Texas constituents were facing an unprecedented winter freeze. King even managed to slide in a dig at Twitter CEO Elon Musk, pointing out that his strange typing was due to “an Elon thing.”

Experts have weighed in on the claims that Biden engaged in similar behavior to Trump’s alleged crimes. Biden similarly had classified documents in his possession after leaving office; the difference between the two situations is that Biden handed them back when they were requested. Trump is accused of obstruction for not agreeing to this; his indictments are therefore handled under the Espionage Act.
