‘It’s the way he looks at me’: Simu Liu seems a bit flustered by Ryan Gosling while promoting ‘Barbie’

Liu and Gosling, Gosling and Liu. These two Hollywood heavyweights can't seem to get enough of each other. We can't either.

If Ryan Gosling looked at me like that, I’d be a bit flustered too — because meeting celebrities can be scary, and despite my way with words, I’d probably end up saying something strange. I once met Rainn Wilson at an art museum, and immediately asked him if he had come there to look at… art. In an art museum. I’ll never forgive myself.

Let’s forget about my problems for a while, though, and talk about Barbie. One of the summer’s most anticipated new titles, this live-action adaptation of its iconic source material is shaping up to be so much better than anyone expected. How could it not be?

With a cast including: Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, and Kate McKinnon — this whole movie looks absolutely fabulous, which is why watching Simu Liu promote the thing has been such a trip.

In the latest Tweet from the Canadian-Chinese actor, Liu shared a still of him and his Ken co-star Ryan Gosling. That’s right, both these dudes get to play one of the most recognizable characters of all time.

I’m not quite sure what the relationship will be between Ken (Gosling) and Ken #2 (Liu), but if the trailer is anything to go off of, it looks like it could be kinda contentious. You can thank director Greta Gerwig for that.

Still, that hasn’t stopped Simu from promoting the heck out of this movie — and having a little fun in the process.

Forget about the Quantum Realm or Multiverse — having two different Simus fight each other is the crossover event we’ve all been waiting for. Admit it. Regardless, playing with dolls and action figures is about all anyone can do until Barbie hits theaters July 21 — so come on, Barbie, let’s go party. Or whatever the kids say these days. Oh, and Rainn, if you’re reading this, next time I’ll try not to come off like such a psycho.
