James Gunn makes it clear which kind of movie he has no interest in directing

At least it's not a hard no.

Ever since James Gunn was announced as the co-head of the newly revamped DC Studios, there’s been extra anticipation for superhero movies coming out from the company. The recent news that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan would be the new Superman and Lois Lane only adds fuel to the fire. However, there is one type of movie that Gunn said he has no interest in directing.

Gunn shared his views on the social media site Bluesky, which I also had to look up, but if you don’t know is a Twitter rival launched by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently. Someone on the site asked Gunn if there was “any video game franchise you would like to direct a movie about, if given the opportunity?”

Seeing as video game movies and shows are having a bit of a renaissance lately, the question makes sense. After all, the Super Mario Bros. Movie grossed about as much as the GDP of a small country, and The Last of Us TV show turned a PlayStation game into pristine TV.

Gunn, who’s not really one to mince words, gave a pretty clear response: “I don’t think so.” While seemingly a disappointing answer, it’s not a hard no. I like to think that the door remains open for him to maybe direct the inevitable Fortnite movie. I’m kidding. Or am I?

To be fair, Gunn has his hands full right now. There’s the aforementioned Superman movie coming out, plus all the other planned movies. There’s Marvel to dominate and there’s hopefully a new Peacemaker on the way as well. As always, we’ll keep you posted on Mr. Gunn and what he decides to do next. Regardless, the future looks bright for the DCU.
