James Gunn and Chris Pratt have a pretty tight relationship, especially since the two have been working together for over a decade on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. That relationship has gone beyond the confines of their work, with the two sharing a genuine friendship in which Pratt trusts Gunn so much that he allowed him to write him a speech for his wedding.

While talking about his future as the co-CEO of DC alongside Peter Safran, Gunn also discussed his rather fabulous past, reminiscing on the good times shared with Pratt and others. The director was on his friend Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast Inside of You, talking all things DC and Guardians of the Galaxy when they veered into one story about Gunn’s wedding.

The director admitted that he wrote the speech that Pratt read at the wedding, which left guests in hysterics. Rosenbaum, who was also present at the wedding, talked about how he “could not stop laughing” during the speech, which Gunn had deliberately written to big himself up but delivered by Pratt. Gunn recalls,

“Yeah, I wrote a speech for Chris, and he read it at the wedding, and I’ve never shared this, but it’s like I wrote the speech. Then he comes up and says, ‘My name is Chris Pratt,” and then he… talks about how foxy my wife is, and he’s like, ‘Yeah, I married Catherine. She’s pretty good.’ He would break, and he’s like, ‘I’m sorry, Catherine, I didn’t write this.’ And he goes on and talks about how much better the Guardians movies are than the Jurassic World movies.”

It wasn’t just Gunn’s words that made people laugh; in true Pratt style, the actor’s delivery sold it. We can’t help but think a little bit of Andy Dwyer came out for this exceptional performance. Gunn continued:

“He was so funny, He was so funny the way he delivered it, and people afterward were like, you know, because his acting was so good, people were like, ‘Did you really not read that until you went up there?’ Well, half the people were like, ‘Chris, did you really write that?’ And he’s like, ‘No, no, James wrote it.’ And then the other half were like, ‘Did you really not read it before you went up there?’ because he acted like he hadn’t read the speech before he started. But he had, we were flying back from San Diego Comic-Con and we were talking about what he was going to read at my wedding, and then we came up with that concept together.”

Now that is a wedding speech we all wish we were there to watch; a combo of Gunn’s writing and Pratt’s comedic acting is always a winner. We can only hope someone got it on film and that one day too, we may get to share in the humor of that moment.
