First-time Academy Award nominee Jamie Lee Curtis would like to remind everyone that one of the things that separates her from every other nominee in history also plays a part in keeping her a regular person.

Curtis, who received the Maltin Modern Master Award at the 38th Santa Barbara International Film Festival this past weekend for her role as Deirdre Beaubeirdre in Everything Everywhere All at Once, told film historian Leonard Maltin that she was “ the only Oscar nominee who sells yogurt that makes you shit.”

The Scream Queens actress is, of course, referring to her stint as spokesperson Activia yogurt, which began in 2009. Dannon claimed that their product could help consumers regulate their digestive system thanks to something called “bifidus regularis.”

Don’t remember those commercials? Here’s a refresher:

In other words: It (allegedly) helps you poop.

Curtis — who is married to Christopher Guest, with whom she shares two adult daughters — is far from embarrassed by her part in keeping the nation’s bowels in working order. In fact, she cites her commercial work as something that helped her family stay together. “I’ve been doing commercials for a very, very, very long time partially so I can ameliorate that distance from my family,” she said during a 2021 appearance on The Kingcast podcast. “It allowed me to earn money and stay home.”

It’s worth noting that in 2010, Dannon agreed to stop claiming that one daily serving of Activia relieves irregularity after the FTC charged the company with deceptive advertising. Its marketing now focuses on the inclusion of vitamin C, D, and zinc and the more generic claim that the yogurt “support[s] your immune system.”

We’re just glad that it helped support Curtis, who we’re looking forward to seeing at the 95th Academy Awards March 12 on ABC.
