Matthew McConaughey looks dazed and confused as he bares all for National Pickle Day

"Now we've got purpose because we're a pickle - sour, sweet, dill."

After meeting with President Joe Biden, actor Matthew McConaughey talks to reporters during the daily news conference in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House on June 07, 2022 in Washington, DC. McConaughey, a native of Uvalde, Texas, expressed his support for new legislation for more gun safety in the wake of the elementary school shooting in his home town that left 19 children and 2 adults dead.

Matthew McConaughey isn’t afraid to take a hard stance on the issues. But today he’s not talking about the hot-button issues of gun rights or Texas state politics. Nope, today the True Crime star is standing up proudly for National Pickle Day.

If McConaughey’s support for America’s favorite brine-based holiday comes as a surprise to you then perhaps you just don’t know Matthew. The Texan actor is not only a fervent supporter of the fermented delicacy, but he is also a self-proclaimed pickle expert, as evidenced by a video posted on the unforgettable National Pickle Day of 2021 in which McConaughey expounded on the “big, plump, firm, bold” characteristics of his favorite salty (or sweet) treat.

“It’s the pickle,” he says, adding, “and you do tickle … my fancy.” The video was met with an outpouring of approval by the Magic Mike star’s fans, with one calling the effort, “the best thing I’ve ever watched. Cinematic masterpiece.”

McConaughey’s celebratory post of today shows that he is no One Pickle Pony though. Apparently, in the McConaughey household, they keep National Pickle Day in their hearts all year. And, clicking on the photo to expand it not only reveals the actor in almost his full McConaughance but also supports the theory that Pickle Day may enjoy some crossover with another McConaughey household tradition — nudity.

The photo is almost certainly a throwback pic and though it may not have been taken on McConaughey’s most famous Naked Day — back in 1999 when he was arrested for playing bongos in the buff (and also for being more than a little high) at his Austin home.

But times have changed a lot since back then. Weed is practically decriminalized in Austin nowadays — but that doesn’t mean that you have to be high to get into the spirit of the season. Just strip down and grab your kosher dill.
