The 84-year-old previously hosted the controversial series Maury, also known as The Maury Povich Show, for 31 seasons before its cancellation in September 2022. Povich and the show were widely recognized for its memorable episodes, outlandish guests, and the iconic “You Are [Or Are Not] The Father” catchphrase.

Although each episode’s topic varied over the years, Povich’s most popular ones were the paternity tests. In these shows, guests often sought Povich’s help in finding out who fathered their child. After hearing the guests’ stories, Povich would deliver the results provided by DNA Diagnostic Center (DDC), which led to various reactions depending on what the legendary host read out loud.

After partnering with DNA Diagnostic Center for over two decades, Povich decided to keep their business relationship going even after the show’s cancellation by coming up with a solution for those dealing with similar issues. So what is The Results Are In and the inspiration behind it?

What is ‘The Results Are In?’

According to TMZ, The Results Are In, a phrase used in the Maury show before the result announcement, is an at-home paternity test that Povich and DNA Diagnostic Center developed. The publication states that the product offers an affordable kit and instructions on collecting a DNA sample.

In an interview with the publication, Povich revealed that the idea for the at-home paternity test stemmed from a conversation with his business manager, who explained that because the television host was known for paternity testing, they thought it would be ideal for him to collaborate with DNA Diagnostic Center for the new project, Povich recalled:

“After retirement my business manager came to me, He says, ‘You know, I have an idea.’ What? ‘You are so well known about paternity testing and we have talked to the DNA Diagnostic Center, DDC, which is the company that ran all of our DNA tests for over 20 years. I mean thousands, upon thousands of tests… And I said, ‘I’m in.’”

Further into the discussion, Povich disclosed the various reasons as to why he accepted the opportunity. The list includes Povich’s experience with paternity testing and its benefits:

“I’m in only because I’ve been around paternity testing for more than 20 years, so I know exactly what’s going on and how we can help those people who are looking for fathers. Fathers who are looking for children. Fathers who don’t think they are the fathers. Fathers who think they are the fathers and we can unite families after a long period of time.”

The Results Are In reportedly provides a “99.9 percent accuracy rate,” and individuals sending off their DNA sample could expect their results after “two to three business days.”

At this time, it is still being determined when The Results Are In will be available for purchase.
