NFL star went from Super Bowl rings to a murder trial, claims he ‘blacked out’

Former NFL star Antonio Brown was extradited from Dubai to Miami on Nov. 6 on a criminal charge of attempted murder that took place at a celebrity boxing match organized by streamer Adin Ross on May 17.

Brown has played all over the league, nine seasons at the Pittsburgh Steelers, and late career roles as Tom Brady’s receiver at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots. This is actually the second time a Brady teammate has been accused of making death threats worthy of a Netflix documentary, after notorious killer Aaron Hernandez.

The events of May 17 right now are still just a subject of allegations and suspicions, but from the information that already exists on the internet, the story goes that earlier in the night, Brown had a fist fight with Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu.

A video surfaced on X showing someone, allegedly Brown, running after a man, and in a blind corner, we can hear two shots ring off, and the crowd dispersing. Nantambu was not harmed. In a later account to the police, he said only one of the bullets grazed his neck and that both shots were fired by Brown.

According to Brown’s X account, he was actually the victim of the entire ordeal. Brown took to the platform and explained that while he did get arrested that night, the police believed his story of thieves trying to steal his jewelry. Brown said he was getting legal assistance to presumably protect his version of events and, by extension, his innocence.

Regarding the boxing event that happened last night. I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me. Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me.…

But between his initial release and the Miami PD issuing their arrest warrant in June and November, Brown relocated to an unverified location in Dubai.

It’s… not looking good

The Miami PD released a statement to People saying, “Following a thorough investigation … Antonio Brown (AB) has been identified as the shooter. This is just another example of the relentless work and dedication of Miami Police Detectives, working closely with Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, and U.S. Marshals to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in the City of Miami.”

Things aren’t looking good for Brown because, during the immediate aftermath he gave multiple interviews about his state of mind during the shooting that could be used against him in a court of law. In a Kick stream alongside controversial streamer Adin Ross, Brown said, “I got CTE, I blacked out. I blacked out, Adin. I don’t know what happened.”

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a neurodegenerative disease linked to head trauma that slowly erodes cognitive skills and emotional regulation and was implicated in Hernandez’s killings. In 2016, the NFL finally acknowledged a direct link between the style of play in the league and its players getting CTE. So it remains to be seen whether they’ll acknowledge these latest claims by Brown.
