It’s been a while since we checked in on the Sussexes so how are Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle doing? Well, it turns out not much has changed as the royal couple continue to lose staff in what experts believe may be a sign that the couple’s brand is “unravelling at speed.”
The couple recently lost their 12th top aide, Meredith Maines, who left her role as Harry and Meghan’s communications chief this month. Maines was the 5th member of senior staff to abandon the Sussexes in 2025 alone, with Harry’s right hand-man and the couple “rock” throughout the “Megxit” debacle, James Holt, leaving his position to return to Britain just before Maines.
Maines’ departure comes mere weeks after Harry and Meghan were pictured partying with the Kardashians in a since deleted Instagram post. The Sussexes received their fair share of backlash for the pictures although it’s unclear whether this had any bearing on Maines’ exit.
This isn’t a good look for Prince Harry and Meghan
The Sussexes are practically haemorrhaging staff at this point and it does nothing to quell the rumors that they are difficult to work with and that’s not to say anything on the allegations that Meghan bullies her staff. Leading PR guru Mark Borkowski called this a disastrous end to the couple’s 2025 via the Daily Mail.
He claims that the couple are in “survival” mode thanks to all of the scandals and missteps. He warns that “One viral misfire, one poorly timed quote, one tone-deaf lifestyle pivot, and suddenly the narrative outruns the strategy.” According to Borkowski, the biggest danger to Harry and Meghan isn’t hostility but rather inconsistency.
“Too many messages, too many intermediaries, too many half-thought-through gestures. Centralisation is less about ego and more about survival.”
Does Borkowski have a point?
The double-exit has certainly put Meghan and Harry back in the spotlight again and not in a good way. On X, one individual claimed “the exits are louder than the projects.”
It seems the Sussexes are losing control of the narrative, assuming they ever had control of it in the first place. Former staff who have left over the years have kept relatively quiet on the subject although people will speculate regardless. Some of the former staff have scrubbed all evidence of their employment with the Sussexes from the CVs.
Of course, Mark Borkowski may be a PR expert, but it seems he’s underestimating Harry and Meghan’s tenacity here. The former royal couple have been stuck in a delicate balancing act for years now and they’ve survived the backlash time and time again. While this latest round of departures may have dented their brand, it’s hard to imagine this killing it.
